    Wiping the back of the neck (and your hand) between songs is not difficult to remember if you're the type who can gum up a neck in 3:35

    Look, polishing a neck is not like colonizing Mars, ok? It CAN be done in 5 seconds on stage, less if you're in a hurry.

    The best for speed overall? It's not in the neck coating, it's in your ability. Rhoads had painted necks, and he had speed. Paul Gilbert has speed to spare, and he uses oiled/satin necks, and he used to use painted necks (see his Ibanez Epiphone copies from Racer X).

    How fast are you planning to go? You can't possibly outrun the guitar. Action, fret size, and string guage will slow you down far more than what's on the back of the neck.

      I like 'em both.

      Just remember that unfinished necks are more reactive to environmental changes.
