That is the exact same pickup and electronics conifguration as my '87, and I wasn't a fan of EMGs, either. Duncan makes some single coils that fit in those routes. I have a JB Jr. and Lil '59 in mine.

wow..looks great. if it plays as good as it looks, I'd keep it if I were you...but to each his own. you'd have to play it though or you wouldn't be doing it justice
I also think it would look even better with chrome hardware..

The JB Jr. is the neck, and the Little '59 is the middle. I use the neck a lot for soloing, and I throw in the middle as needed for color. I never actually use the middle by itself.

Interesting--the production neck heels in 1990 were that 'scoop' design like you still see on the SL3--the smooth design on yours didn't go onto the regular production Soloists until 1992 or '93, I believe.

That said, I would keep that guitar, personally. Great color, and it's not that often you are going to find a Soloist from that era in that good of a shape. Plus, $900 was a decent price for it, but you won't be able to get much, if any, more for it than that if you sell it.

I would say that if it were a few year older then grab and hang on. I do not think that a 1990 that you are not in love with is worth buying at this point, especially for $900 (even though the condition is great). In fact, I think that you get a better guitar now because of the real floyd, but that is me.

You answered your own concern! It's not a production guitar! Hence the "J" serial number. By the spring of 1990 Jackson did begin a new neck to body joint that was heavily sculpted, and that was reserved for production guitars. Custom Shop guitars did not always utilize it.

And, there's absolutely NO NEED to replace a Jackson labeled Schaller with a Floyd Rose.

I'd keep it, that's pretty sweet. If you don't like the hardware, swap it out for chrome, I love how chrome and blue looks together. Unless you'd let it go to me for half price.

I'm way too new here to be a "bro" and wouldn't pull that crap anyway. Regardless, I'd keep it. That's a very nice blue.

I think $900 is very fair considering its condition, the custom J serial number, good quality pickups (even though EMGs may not be your thing), and the Schaller Floyd...plus it's got the original hangtag.

If for instance, the same guitar had a JT-6 Floyd, and Jackson-labeled pickups, I wouldn't think it'd be worth it. But get it if you think you'd play it!

Personally, I like the non-recessed height of the Floyds from this era, compared to the fully recessed of current soloists. And if you end up not liking it, you should be able to sell it for the same price on the bay or here.

It's a good price but not a steal. Something like this would bring 950-1050 on Ebay so I wouldn't buy it unless you're gonna keep it because you'll just be breaking even on Ebay after fees.

Ah, yes. The subtlety of the "bro deal".

Let's take this guitar as an example.

When you list it, the correct "bro" price will be $1500.

As a buyer, my "bro" offer will be $350 and a Samick with a busted tuner.
