• Custom Shop neck questions.

I'm plotting a Custom Shop 7 string and I need some advice about the neck.

Basically, the guitar will be a 7 string SL2H. With that being said, I need to know what type of neck construction I should choose. I play with DR Tite-Fit 11-50's, 11-60's on a 7 string, tuned to E flat with four or five springs for a very stiff feel. Also, I live in New Mexico so we tend to have less humidity on average but can shift up with the Summer Monsoons and Winter Storms. With all that being said, which construction method should I choose? Standard, 3 piece, or Multi-Laminate?

What does Multi-Laminated offer over the other two construction methods? I have a decent idea of what 3 piece gives you over Standard already.

Is there a tonal difference with Multi-Laminate? I know it would be minimal at best but I'd like to know opinions of people before going thru with it.

Can Jackson do Orange binding and Sharkfins? My original ideas for my guitar were either Black Metallic or Interference but I've been inspired by Shreddermon's new CS and was thinking of going with Black w/ orange pickups, binding, Sharkfins, and logo. They list a few binding colors but Orange isn't one of them and on the inlays they say "call".

On the Ibanez Universe, the neck is not the same dimensions as the JEM just for a 7 string. Is this due to Vai's preference or stability issues? Would a Soloist neck need to go thru the same changes to jump from 6 to 7 string?

    Thanks!

Multi-laminate is the strongest and most stable of all the necks. It also looks pretty and costs more. How would that affect your tone? Not too sure.

Dunno about Orange binding, call a dealer and ask. I'm getting red binding on one of my custom orders, so orange might be a possibility. Yes, Jackson can do colored sharkfins.

      Muchas gracias mi amigo.

So, Multi-Lam is the type of neck that has maple/walnut(or some darker wood)/maple/walnut/maple right? Like some of the Ibanez J-Customs? If that's what it is, then thanks for telling me. I never knew that.

I bet the red binding will look sweet!

Yeah, it looks like multiple stripes of wood... very strong.

Also known as "laminated wood" - but then so is plywood

So, you have any good stories about plywood?

When I was little, I busted my cousin's head open on plywood that my family was using for the back porch project we were doing. He was very annoying. Wasn't as annoying after that......

                Other than that not really.
