Re: Update on James Hetfield\'s King V

Didn't James have a KV pro Dave Mustaine signature?

HolyWars I think the Metallica websites are referring to that 1985 white KV in the Hetfield gearlists. Someone probably thought it was a KV Pro and then everyone else copied the info from there. I don't recall James ever playing a KV Pro but I might be wrong.

That was the only KV Jamez ever played, I dont rmember seeing any other pic of one other than this 85 custom shop.

        Any better pics?

I doubt Jamez would play a Mustaine sig really.

The April '89 Guitar Player magazine cover has a good pic of this guitar.

James' King V was a little older than Dave's. The sites get that wrong as they use modern terms for older guitars. Like they usually call Kirk's V a "RR1" when it was actually a Rhoads Custom.

Re: Update on James Hetfield\'s King V

Thanks for posting the above pic from GP as that's the source of my next question! I have this issue and always wondered what the mod, if any, was done in the spacing of the bridge pickup.

In '89 I figured that extra white portion next to the pickup on the neck side, was to fill the larger hole due to the larger Jackson pickups of that time. I had my Charvel Model 2 at that time and figured his came with the same larger route. But that's not correct since his was made before those pickups were used. Do you think it's possible that the pickup was originally closer to the neck and he wanted it moved toward the bridge for a more treble sound? I can't think of any other reason for that extra white piece.
