Sully, I think he wants to know if the custom shop will build him a custom order RR out of Korina. If not, who will?Scott

Re: RR prototype made of Korina!!!!
As usual, more info is required!
MXR, what exactly do you mean by "prototype" ?
Do you mean Randy Rhoads' original design (Concorde)?
When you say "RR players choice" are you referring to a different guitar, or the same one?
If you just want a RR1 made out of korina, I'd say that's well within possibility..."Quiet, numbskulls, I'm broadcasting!" -Moe Howard, "Micro-Phonies" (1945)

Re: RR prototype made of Korina!!!!
They won't build the white one or the black one exactly like the original or the LTD and PCS models. That has been stated before, no?
But yes you can get a Jackson Custom Shop Rhoads that is similar to those two (not sure HOW similar they'll allow it) out of korina, though personally I can't understand why you'd want a korina guitar. It's tonally similar to mahogany, weighs about the same, and has no figure to it worth mentioning (unless you know a place that has flamed or quilted korina).

Re: RR prototype made of Korina!!!!
Hi Newc; On the old Jackson website there used to be pics of the LTD and PCS in the gallery where it said in the caption under them something like: "We'll still build you one through the custom shop, if you ask nice".
I'm not doubting what you're saying about them not building those anymore but when did they say that? I've never heard that except here on the forum.
Thanks.

Re: RR prototype made of Korina!!!!
the "no exact replicas of the LTD" rule came with the reissue. they won't do it. that's what keeps the series limited.
dunno about the pcs; curt ordered a white one. it's cool as hell.

Re: RR prototype made of Korina!!!!
It's from Africa, but what part I don't know, and with the turmoil over there I'm sure it either costs too much to get over here or it's endangered.
At any rate, most guitar manufacturers/supppliers have massive stockpiles of different woods in the USA which are still curing and not ready to be used, which means wood bought 5 years ago or more (depending on how long it takes to cure and whether they use an accelerating process or let it cure naturally) before the ban is still available. Honduran mahogany is no longer harvested, but there should be quite a few piles of it somewhere.
As for natural wood apearance - maybe on a traditional guitar like a Strat or Tele, but on a pointy V it's worse than salmon pink with sky blue pickups
