• CS Maple with Sharkies

If you saw the efraid thread, you've seen this - but his pictures sucked. Mine suck too. I'll try to do them right later.

It was dirty, so after a quickie cleaning and setup, here ya go:

The ding is on the back of the lower horn - from the front, she looks great for her age. Maple is dirty from use, but guitar is in great condition.

This is no joke: when I flipped the amp off of standby, this guitar roared at me. Like a lion. It excited me.

Sucker sounds and plays like velvet destruction. I just don't know how else to sum it up. Awesome tone. Just incredible.

I thought the mahogany would be heavy. But it isn’t at all.

I know you didn't ding her Bob, but whoever did it, ding is too nice of a word. "Gouge" is more like it. Didn't take wood, though. The nail polish seems to be holding up well.

Frets are pretty flat, but true to her heritage, no grooves. Just normal wear.

So thanks for selling it whenever you sold it, so that I could end up with it now!

that guitar does sound REALLY good. i almost modded it to a HSS pickup config, or possibly 2 hums. but i'm kinda at the point now where i like to leave them original. if i don't like it, i leave it alone and pass it on.

i have noticed that there are PLENTY of people out there who like 1 hum guitars.

heck, i used them myself for a few years in the early 80s. took the neck pickup out of my strat headstock kramer pacer (very early issued, first with floyd in florida allegedly), in the neck pickup empty slot was a sticker that said "NOT". then years later i see scott ian's jacksons, and i laughed my ass off!

Great score, Keith! I like the maple board with Sharkies...reminds me of the one I found this summer.
That one absolutely ripped, too. the only reason I sold it is because I don't do Floyds.

                  Re: CS Maple with Sharkies

I love single hums. I know this isn't very advanced of me, but I need a shredmonster to do one thing well. On h/s/s floyded guitars, and even on h/h floyded guitars like the Model 5, I almost never ever use anything but the bridge pickup. When I want a different sound, I change guitars. I use the neck, middle, and bridge pickups on my strat (copy) all the time. And the neck hum on my SG.

But on a silky sinner like this one, just one hum, please.

I would probably feel differently if I were a better player, but that is neither here nor there.

Yeah, Tom, yours was the only other maple sharkie that I've ever seen: and weren't the fins black, or am I just not remembering right? And the body was kind of funky cut, wasn't it? And was the finish black? I love black guitars, just not on me.

                    Re: CS Maple with Sharkies

Color was metallic gray, sharkies were MOP. And yeah, the lower cutaway was extended somewhat. It was an absolute screamer.

Yours is only about the second Jackson I've seen with a maple board and MOP sharkies. Actually...I think I seem to remember another one...Scott Ian's maybe? Anyway, definitely rare. And very, very cool.

Call me a blasphemer, but I'd take that over the Shannon anyday.
