I have a 1979 Gibson SG Std. with a 3 piece mohagany neck. It's finished in dark heritage cherry, but you can still see the separate pieces.

Yes, the three piece neck makes it much more rigid. I ordered my mahogany neck really thin, so I wonder how flexible my XTRR will be.

A rigid neck is very important for tone. Good Choice. My 1979 SG sounds awesome. It's 100% unmolested - my oldest unmolested Gibson (I have a 63 Special as well, but re-fin'd).

I just looked at my unfinished neck-thru ESP. It is a three piece maple neck as well.
