Re: 24fret rhoads

Nah, I don't have Victor. I am really bad about taking a chance and buying CDs with songs I haven't heard. Pretty dumb, I know.

Alex lifeson influence my playing style more than any other guitarist; which makes sense, because my first guitar instructor started me off by giving me Rush Songs to learn, so I had to bug my friends so I could borrow their tapes to practice to. My originals have a definite Rush style to them, which is a curse as well as a blessing. I have this handicap where I think a song has to have a million chords and an intro/VerseA/VerseB/PreChorus/Chorus/Bridge, etc structure to it. Oh well. It keeps me from getting lazy.

Hence, the "AlexL" screen name. I guess I could have picked "SnowDog", eh?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I can relate, actually; I don't usually get anything i haven't heard of. They played a song from the Victor CD on KLOS when I lived in LA so I took a chance. It is really different than a Rush album; most of it I like a lot, but there's some pretty dark stuff on it. The 3rd song is called "Start Today", with guest singer Lisa DalBello. She's a big star in Canada I understand. Anyway, she does a vocal turn that sounds just like Geddy sounded in Caress of Steel and 2112 days!

I've always loved Alex's style for chord construction, phrasing and sound. For lead I like him a lot too, but Michael Schenker and Uli Roth were my favorites for screaming solos. Those guys were the top of the heap in the late 70s and early
80s! Uli can stand up to any supershredder even today IMO, with a lot more emotion and the same super chops!

Yep, "Snowdog" is Victorious! In other worlds he RULES!

lerxtscat:

Yup, I caught your Rush reference as well! What's that section of La Villa Strangiato called? "A lerxst in wonderland"?

AS long as we're on the subject of constellations, stars, and as such, one of my high school teachers helped me realize that there was a lot more going on in Rush's lyrics than I realized. I was showing him some of their lyrics, just because I thought they were interesting, and he clued me in on the Cygnus/Deneb connection, the fact the Rocinante was Don Quixote's horse, and that Xanadu was based on some poem I'd never heard of called "Kubla Khan". I bought a T-Shirt for him from the "Power Windows" tour, and he actually wore it during school the next day AND to the parent/teacher conferences that night. I even got him to go to a Rush concert with me a year or two after I graduated.
