• KE-1

In 1998 what was the retail price of a KE-1.and was there a difference between the Marty Friedman signature model and a KE-1 or were they one in the same.I've heard some conflicting opinions that a MF signature was a limited run.And a KE-1 was just a production guitar.I have no clue so will one of you learned jackson experts shed some light on this ever widening question.Thanks.

Re: KE-1

The KE1 is the Friedman sig, but the MF limited run was also called the KE1. The only difference is that it was black with a gold signature (possibly gold hardware too, I don't remember). But it's the same guitar, the KE1 has one pickup. The KE2 is the production model non-Friedman Kelly, it has two pickups. Musicians Friend also did a limited run Dave Mustaine signature KV, but again, it had the same model name as the normal KV (and for the life of me I can't remember if Dave had a KV1 or if he just used the stock KV2... for some reason KV1 just doesn't sound right).

Re: KE-1

From what I can remember, there was three Marty Friedman Kellys.
KE1 - Kahler APM3310 sig series.
KE1F - Same as KE1 but with a Floyd Rose trem.
KE1 Musicians Friend - KE1F with gold hardware. Limited Run

As for the Dave Mustaine King Vs, there were a few that I can remember right now.
King V Pro - Professional Series (early 90's).
King V PCS - DM serial number with Floyd Rose (Mid 90's) Limited Run
KV1 - Kahler APM3310, or String through TOM sig series.
KV1 Musicians Friend - Floyd rose trem, gold hardware. Limited Run
Y2KV - Gibson-ish round horn V.

I believe retail price was about $1400 - $1700 depending on the dealer. Remember this was before OSG.

Yeah. And they also made all of the above as models without Marty's signature ont he headstock.

Not all KE1T's are non-beveled. Mine is a trans-blue, 1 hum, TOM bridge , no body binding but definitely beveled.

hey hey

i'm new here despite my screen name i have much to learn about my Jacksons, hence why i'm here.

can one of you more knowledged folks tell me the history behind the KE2? has it always been made in the USA? why has the KE2 outlasted the KE1? what kind of pickup did the KE1 have?

if possible, does anyone know when the Kelly was first put in production in the first place? its my favorite guitar, and i'd like to be more educated about it.

thanks

Re: KE-1

Probable reasons for the KE-2 outlasting the KE-1:

***Marty left
***Floyd Rose
***Dual hums
***No Marty signature
***Graphics/other colors offered

Those features seem to appeal to more people and so sales should have been stronger for the KE-2.
