Re: What made you select your first USA Jackson?

as for me it was a whole bunvh of things...first time i saw a Jackson was Adrian Smith's white Stratocaster custom. after that my friend told me he had a JS series Jackson and it was a good guitar for the price. after that, i got a BC Rich (BAD GUITARS!) after turning down a DKMG or a X Series King V. big mistake. well one day i went to Guitar Center and they had a black transparent KE2. being a fan of the Explorer shape, i had to try it out. not only did it have a nice sound, thanks to the nice pickups but it was also damn right comfortable and as jeweled and pampered looking as a Les Paul. so that was it.

Re: What made you select your first USA Jackson?

When I bought my first USA Jackson, it was because of the playability, the names that stood behind it, how it looked, how it felt, the quality workmanship (save on Mondays and Fridays at Jackson on their later stuff...jk) great parts.

I mean to me, a guitar with duncans and a real OFR was custom to me, thats just how it was.

They are a wonderful bang for the buck, but its like, I look at one and I think, if I was going to custom build a guitar, what would it be.

And, it always comes out to something asimilar to a stock SL2H

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I started trying out Jacksons after a member of a guitar site I'm a Mod at (he's also a member here) kept going on about them. Found the quality to be good, and the Soloists were pretty much what I was after in a guitar. I like Stratty shapes, but I want something a bit more than the standard Strat has to offer. Always been a fan of Duncans too.

Why a US Jackson? Well I had four choices.

1. Pay a lot of money for an SL3 (£800) in the UK.
2. Pay an extortionate amount of money for an Sl1 (twice what the SL3's were).

Now, I rely on gig money to fund the gear acquisition, everything else I have coming in goes on food, rent, the bills and studenty stuff. There's a limit to what I'm prepared to pay for a guitar, and options 1 and 2 weren't exactly great. However, in the US prices are a hel of a lot cheaper and I bought mine when the £sterling/$US exchange rate was brilliant for me, so that gave me some more options.

3. Import an SL3. But with shipping and duties and the like it wouldn't be as good value for money as....

4. Importing an SL1. I got the actual guitar for a fair bit less than an SL3 would cost over here. After shipping, VAT, import duty and the likes it still came out significantly cheaper than getting an SL1 - or any similar quality guitar - would cost over here in the UK. Thanks to OSG, I have a fine SL1.

well...my selection was by default actually. I was really looking for a pinstripe LTD for the longest time but couldn't find one that I'd wouldn't have to give my left nut for I found this and got a good deal on thinking I would maybe turn it for profit if I didn't like it. After I got it it took a long time to get used to it as I'm a Strat bodied guy..once I became comfortable playing wise I couldn't let her go...just plays great and sounds better than anything else...plus when you play Mr Crowley or Revelation you get a cool Randy vibe goin on

Re: What made you select your first USA Jackson?

It's probably not exciting, but I really wanted a PRS for 13 years. Went thru college, got my first real job and on the first day placed a deposit for one. One year later it came in and I brought it home. One month later, I tried a friends Jackson and a Hamer. By September 02 I started saving up for the Jackson SL1. Ordered it in January 03, and by March my PRS was very lonesome.

Now my Jackson is looking for a brother and the PRS has a very large coating of dust on the case.

As for Hamers. Well... That's another love story.

I used to play kramers back in the 80's and allways wanted a chavel/jackson after playing one but never had the cash at the time. Then one day out of no wear my girlfriend--(now my wife)-- walked in the front door with a drand new S/D charvel. I dam near sh#t my pants and a little later down the road she did the same thing only this time it was a USA jackson. and that is all I play now...as for the kramers they made good firewood on a cold night.

Re: What made you select your first USA Jackson?

I always wanted one, and for a while drooled over a soloist that was in a local store (maybe ten years ago).

I switched careers in 2001 and had to cash out some state retirement. Yeah, I could of rolled it over into a 401K, but I said what the hell and bought, among other things, a SL-1 in ED. I don't know if I'll buy a ton of Jacksons (I'm a one/two guitar kind of guy), but this guitar is a definate keeper. Nothing fancy, nothing rare-just a damn fine rock and roll machine.

My little brother was in town about a month ago, and I showed it to him for the first time. His response was "Damn, I didn't know they still made guitars like this. There is hope for this world yet."

Basically, I walked into Guitar Center to buy some strings and picks, saw a Black Pearl Y2KV on the wall that immediately caught my eye. I played it for about 10 minutes and then proceeded to empty my checking account on it. Best and only impulse buy I've ever done. The whole time while I was driving home from the shop I kept looking at the guitar in the passenger seat thinking to myself "Did I really just score a new Y2KV for $950 out the door?" The funny thing is was that my friend's dream guitar was a Black Pearl Y2KV, but he was over in Europe for 3 months while the whole Mustaine/discontinuation fiasco happened, so he was mighty pissed when he came over one day and I told him to close his eyes while I pulled out the guitar. He almost wept.

Cellar Dweller, I have RR1028!!! Isn't that rad??

As for the topic, I first got into Jacksons when I saw Kirk Hammett playing his old Rhoads in the Master of Puppets cd booklet. When I was 14 I decided that I'd like a Rhoads of my own, so I saved up my money for 4 years and finally got mine from Yogadork the week before my 18th birthday.
