My first was a 1984 Rhoads Custom Candy Purple with Brass. It was a gift to me from my parents, who I'm sure had to save their a$$es of for it. I still have the original receipt, and the guitar. More info here if interested. web page
Randy, Robbin Crosby, and Vinny Vincent are the players that come to mind. Plus they were chick magnets. Oh yeah the Doug Marks Metal Method ads in Guitar Magazine.
My buddies always played the Jackson's , I had had several Ibanez and Kramer guitars and finally saved up for a Dinky Reverse in the early 90's....I then found my first soloist (U00077)in a pawn shop and picked it up for nothing and have never looked back.
Playability and tone, but it didn't that it was in a pawnshop and they had no clue what it was so I got at an import price (less than a $100).

I'll have to look at my back issues of early eighties mags and get back to you on that. Could have sworn it was a white Rhoads with black hardware.

celler_dwellers RR Student model RR0066 was my first Jackson. I played in Sabre back in 82 & 83 and wanted to get Jackson to build me a guitar.Called and mailed them specs/design and Grover's Wife told me to wait, that they were going to put the RR models into production and it was similar to what I wanted. Ordered it from Regenberg Music in Middleton WI where we got most of our equipment. The rest is history. Super sustain, sound, playability.Did have a couple bugs since it was from the second run of 50 that Jackson put out. First was a ground problem between the black anodized plates, drove me nuts trying to figure that out.Had to scrape the connections between them and lay wire under to connect them all. Next was the rattling truss rod.Talked to a production worker who said they forgot to put padding in the truss rod slot which kept it from vibrating on certain chords.Had to send it back to CA for that one. Also broke lots of string with my heavy handed playing. Would like to communicate with celler dweller about where it's been since I sold it. I have old pics,do you have any newer ones? Greg. sabre83.
I was a hugh Megadeth fan and wanted either a Kelly or a V. Had a lot of trouble deciding back then, but finally went with the V. I've loved Vs ever since.
