man he really sounds serious about this!

another thing i'd like to know historically is, why were Neck Thru USA Jacksons (later USA Selects) produced only in 1990? why were Neck Thrus originally just custom shop orders?

and what's with the exception of the Kelly and King V from being left out from the other 4? my god Jackson sure has a messy history.

Back then, Dave's was at the shop for some work, Robbin walked in and saw it, wanted one. Since Dave wasn't that well known at that time in whatever other band he was in, Robbin got more recognition for it.
And in case you don't know, it was called the Double Rhoads because it had both wings the same size of the long wing of a Rhoads, which is bigger than the wings on the current King V.

I remember there was a JCF discussion about that very fact a few months back...IIRC it got a little heated but I was vindicated in the end!

DM was playing a BC Rich in the Cliff 'Em All vid (March 1983), and he stayed with them throughout the early days of Megadeth. Remember the ads with the guys all holding Richs circa '86? (DM was holding an Ironbird!).

However, I was an early fan of Megadeth, and attended most of their SoCal shows in the '86-'88 time period. Anybody remember Jezebel's in Anaheim? I'm fairly sure by late '86 -- and for sure by '87 -- DM was playing King Vs.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Wow, that is interesting! I never realized James Hetfield played a King V before Dave Mustaine.

Dammit, Joe, you beat me to it! I guess that's what I get for not reading all of your post. But Dave wasn't in Overkill until a few years ago. He was in some local Jersey band that Zakk Wylde used to be in.

There's a picture of James', Jim. He used that on the Master of Puppets tour in 86, then on the subsequent Monsters of Rock tour, but it was broken at that time.

                I have that issue somewhere.

Here is James with it back in 1985:

The details according to the log it was made specifically for him completed on 5-24-85. His warranty registration was received 7-8-85. Pretty funny to think he even bothered to send the card in!

but judging from your screen name you seem to like Kellys, so you seem like a nice guy to me.

like you said before, it's all just a preference, or something...

aside from addressing KE, and hoping he addresses me back, i dont want to make any enemies....

but i have to ask this, looking at the Hetfield pic link above, how do we know that's a Jackson? it says on the headstock "Kill Bon Jovi." sure its got a sharp V shape and sharkfin inlays but i've a Explorer done before with sharkfin inlays and it wasnt a Jackson. how do we know that's a Jackson?

Isnt the first King V, the Vic Vergat V, which was made in 1981, when the Overkill dude was still in diapers?................

that wouldnt make sense seeing as Jackson was still in its infant years at the time. and the Rhoads was still being invented by Randy and Grover.

and Overkill was an 80s Thrash band during the hey-day of Megadeth, so i doubt that the members were "in diapers" at the time.

The original Vergat V was made I think in 80 and predated the Rhoads. It didnt have any name on the headstock, because the Jackson brand wasnt thought up of, but it was still made by Grover, and its basically a King V...........Oh, and I think some of the Overkill dudes are still in diapers..............

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Because he didn't have the logo covered up on it earlier on (you can still see the "J" in the logo anyway), plus the guitar is documented in the Jackson Logs. It states:
                            J0707- Completed 5-24-85, Style-King V Custom, Color-Ivory, Bridge-Randy Rhoads, work order 5449, Store- James Hetfield Metallica, Warranty-7-8-85

It sure matches the ones in the photographs!

But i still don't see why you insist about Overkill unless you mean there were line up changes and there are really young members NOW who are a lot younger than the ones who founded the band back in the 80s. then that would make sense. lol....hahaa you must really hate Overkill for some reason i'm guessing...

Overkill's first EP release was in 1984. FWIW
