• Question about Kelly artists...

yes i am quite aware that this might belong on the Artists and gear forum, but it just doesnt seem right because they dont even seem to talk about guitars over there. so i posted this here.

Are there any other actual METAL artists who used the Kelly besides Bradford Kelly, Marty Friedman, and the guys from Rough Cut? I can't think of anyone else. i would really like to feel comfortable that someone credible in the metal world used a Kelly. everyone else i know has used Rhoads and King Vs.

yes i know its a matter of being confident in yourself and a matter of you liking the actual guitar, but its a thing to me as well. in fact the whole thing about Marty Friedman is the one flaw about the Kelly to me. gosh, i know i'm gonna get a lot of hatemail for that.

just think of the Kelly as a cooler version of an Explorer, which loads of metal people play. Hetfield, Pitrelli (megadeth), Eric Peterson (testament) and loads more. If you really want i can write you a big list but my head hurts!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">The good thing Marty brought to the Kelly is the smaller body we know today (at least I think it's a good idea, as I'm a smaller guy, though I no longer own my two Kellys any longer as I'm more of a Strat-type guy). Before that, there was the King Kelly (most had cutouts in the body, but one or two did not), and there was a smaller downsized body after that. Marty had it made even smaller to what we're used to today. Check this out.

Astennu, ex-Dimmu Borgir favored the import Kelly.

Is that a custom shop or did they build a KE1T ?

Actually, that is a picture of Greg Crowe’s customshop King Kelly. He ordered it specifically without the cutouts. The picture was taken to show the differences in a KE2, King Kelly, and the KE1. I'm not sure if they have ever produced a King Kelly w/o the cut outs as a production model.

My Kelly is another variation. It is like the smaller size, but with 22 frets and wider pickup gap.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Not custom shop. They made both KE1Ts and KE2Ts for a short period of time.
