Re: Question about the Custom Shop\'s Dinkys and Soloists....

I have an 89 Strathead Dinky. They've been around for quite some time.

And I thought Soloists were called Dinky Strats before they were called soloists.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">That's what I thought. Just the same as the XTRR was first called a Dinky Rhoads when Dan Spitz had them made.

That is correct, but they weren't "production" guitars at that point.
Its tough to say what came out and when with C/J, because everything was custom order.
The first time a guitar showed up in a catalog with the Dinky name was 1986.

OK, I had a 1991 USA Fusion, didn`t they use the Dinky body? Anyway, my 1993 Soloist body is deffinately bigger than my 1991 Fusion body was, so maybe there is a size difference? Jack.

I've found the Dinky's neck to be much thinner than a standard Soloist as well.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Oops, my bad, Chuck is right. The '86 catalog refers to "Dinky Strat". I was looking for "Dinky" alone.

Hmm...well....I dunno!

I'm fairly well versed in the early to late eighties stuff. After that, I'm not at all sure. I'm just going by the catalogs, but as someone said here once long ago, "When it comes to Jackson/Charvel, never say never."

The mid-90s DK1 had 22 frets and HSS.

And, not to add confusion to this topic, but there is a modest difference in body shapes for the 22 vs. 24 fret'rs.
