• Sitting with a Kelly...

    Hey Guys,

Im new to posting here and have been reading the board for a few days, im here because im interested in buying a USA series Jackson, and i am tossing up between a DK1 and a KE2, what i wanted to ask was, is it comfortable to sit with a Kelly if you need to? Does the rear wing part jab into your underarm?

And which of the two would you recommend to a relatively new guitar player (playing for a year, but i want to get my hands on something really nice because i dont intend on stopping any time soon!)

Thanks for any help, and im looking forward to speaking to you guys more!

I sold mine a long time ago, but if I remember right, it was neck heavy, and does not sit comfortably at all.

Absolutely no problem whatsoever. I have a KE2 and it balances perfectly playing sitting down.

no problem whatsoever you can play it (a KE2) sitting down as if it were a strat. or as if it were a V. works either way for me. i doubt you'll have a problem. and you can rest your arm comfortably on the wing when playing sitting down so that its perfect playing comfort. i had the same skepticism when i bought my kelly. but now i wouldnt have it any other way.

            Re: Sitting with a Kelly...

I had two Kellies that were great sitting down. Though, I play in the classical position anyway with the body between my legs, over my left thigh. I never had a problem with heavy necks and neck diving, but I didn't like the way the body seemed to tilt out, away from my stomach and down towards the floor a little. I would always have to put the strap over the top of the body to pull it back in a straighter position. I ultimately sold them because I prefer Strat shapes.

Couldn't say about a Kelly, but the DK1's rule. I have a new one and it shreds. Nice oiled neck with a very thin profile.

the Rhoads isn't that bad sitting down i found, but strats are the best for sitting.

I find my Kelly VERY confy to sit or stand with!

It was a bit awkward at first.but I found a really nice, comfortable position. you learn to rest your arm on the back curve..it really lets you relax your arm more when you get used to it!

A start is always the most comfortable sitting down..but I LOVE my KE2!

My KE3: BEST BALANCE EVER, both in sitting and standing positions. When I stand, I put the strap over the long wing to bring it closer to myself, or else the guitar will tilt towards the floor. No problems with neck-heaviness here!

I have a Kelly bass, and I'm surprised at how nice it feels while I'm sitting. It rests on my right thigh very comfortably, just like a Strat or P-bass. I used to think "pointy" instruments were unplayable, but not the Kelly.

My Kelly although a Japanese 93 Pro Neck thru balances extremely well. I have no issues with it sitting or standing. A good example of how one would be is too check out a Gibby explorer or a Kelly if there is one around ya. And see how they sit and judge for yourself. The explorer will be a bit bigger in the fin region than the Kelly. but the waiste cuts are the same as is the bridge position and nut position. Sitting with a Kelly over the DK1 would put the nut a little farther away from ya but it;s not more than a half step usually. It's an easy adjust of the brain.

V shaped guitars are the best for sitting. For some reason I learned to play guitar sitting in teh classical position, nobody tol dme to do that, I just did it..and the V guitars are perfect! I even try holding strat shaped guitars in this fashion..I just like have the neck at that kind of upward more vertical angle, gives me more control I gues.
