• Just picked her up today....

I've had this one put away for a little while now, and finally picked her up today. A US Fusion, 1991, according to the serial charts.

The volume hole has been filled so now I have just a little circle where the pot used to be. Volume has been moved to the 2nd position, and the tone works for both pickups.

The colour has worn off the EMG logo so I can't tell what model. I'm suspecting an 81. And I'm still trying to work out what's in the neck. There are no markings on the back. The neck p/u has 3 adjusting screws, 2 on one side; a brass base plate; a nice warm, round tone, which quite nicely compliments the EMG and sounds great clean. Any ideas what this pickup might be? Could it be a Reflex?

Apologies for the pic quality. It's been bucketing down here in the Sunshine State, so an outdoor shot was out of the question. And even with the lights on and the guitar sitting by a window, the light was so grey today, I had to use the flash. Man, photographing black guitars is a b!tch!

You moved to Florida from Australia?

    Anyhoo, sweet score!

I think that might be a Schaller pickup (one side of the baseplate has two separate "legs" for the screws?)

Wasn't there a Fusion HH model?

Yes, there were Fusion HH models. Great score, Gary! Pull the pickups and see if there's a sticker or model markings on them.

Re: Just picked her up today....

The Fusion HH was a '92 model and was an import with dots. This is a totally different beast and I'm not sure what it is Gary. Are you sure it's Fusion scale? Does it have the lower bout scoop, it's hard to tell in the pic.

There was no USA Dinky in the very early 90's and when they first came back they looked very different to that and had 22 frets. We need more pics, what's the serial number?

Re: Just picked her up today....

I've just tweaked the brightness a little so you can better see the guitar.

Queensland is also referred to as the Sunshine State, so DJM is closest - I'm in Brisbane, state capital and an hour north of the Gold Coast.

It's definitely a player. No serious dings, but covered in light scratches.

And I'm absolutely sure it's a Fusion. I had originally thought it was a Dinky. But as I was starting this thread last night, I got to thinking: all US Dinkies of the period had 22 frets. This has 24. Maybe it's a Fusion. Broke out the tape measure to check. Rechecked my '92 Fusion. Doublechecked the US. Yup, it's a Fusion.

re: the pickups, what may not have been as clear in that first pic is that there are faint splits in the finish running from the side of one pickup to the other, top & bottom. It seems to me that someone didn't like the pickup config and has opened up the rout between the H-S-S pickups, dropped a block of wood in to fill it, and then rerouted for a neck humbucker.

Which I don't mind at all. Now I have two 2-hum Fusions.

Ah, that makes sense, can't really see that at all, still can't see the lower bout recess but cool, somone made it into a dual hum fusion, no complaints there!!! How does she play?

Did you get my email yesterday?

Re: Just picked her up today....

if you turn your head and squint, you might just make out that lower bout bevel.

the weather's looking a better today, so I'll try to get some shots outside.

Joe, I pulled the neck pickup and couldn't find any markings on it. IIRC, Reflex pickups were available as an upgrade during this period so that's why I figured it may have been one. Possibly the bridge pickup moved to the neck when the EMG was installed.

Vic, I got your email, but with you heading out to a show last night & me unable to get any decent pics, I didn't rush to reply. Spent the night with the family and forgot to reply before bed. I'll shoot you an email now

Very cool Mod dude!! I would even like to go farther and have a 1 Hum Fusion, now that would be smokin Mine is in such fine shape, I don`t have the heart to have it done, but if I ever find a really beaten up one, I may go for it Nice Fusion man. Jack.

If you pull the EMG out, it will have a sticker on the back with the model # on it.

hehe. I can live with that.

here are some better pics, taken this afternoon.

I know some of you Stateside will be starting to freeze your arses off, so I wanted to get some palm trees in the reflection, y'know, just to warm you up a little

You can see here the breaks in the finish between the pickups where I believe the rout was filled to make it a 2 hum guitar.
