• My black pointy x-mas presant has arrived!

My first ever Jackson arrived from EastonGuitars today. A black KV2 with jumbo frets installed.
I haven't actually seen it yet because I'm at work now, but it's waiting for me at home.

I have three exams + work this week, so pictures will have to wait until Friday or Saturday.
And I will probably not get to play it much before than either.

I've heard of people whos guitars have been stuck in customs and shit like that, but everything went smoothly for me. Jackson had a black one in stock and Kevin snagged it for me, and shipping across the Atlantic only took a couple of days.

Well, I just wanted to let you guys know, so now you can start congratulating me.

Heisann Rune, I'm from the same country as you. More specific Tromsø.

I just got home from work and had to try it out.
It's a beauty and it plays great! But the speed-neck is really not that thin. If that's the the thinnest Jackson neck.............well then it probably is.
But some of my former guitars, Washburn Dime333 and ESP EC-1000, plus my current long time best friend ESP KH-2, all have thinner necks.
No problem though, it's just a margin thicker and I'm allready used to it after 5 min playing.
Well, I'm off to study.

Nice, who did the frets? Easton or Jackson?

Re: My black pointy x-mas presant has arrived!

Now that the guitar has adjusted to its new suroundings and I'm finished with my exams, I've had time to set it up and play with it for a while.
First of all it feels incredibly solid and well made, but there are some faults.
The neck width was a little wider than I'm used to, but that took me no time getting used to.

The problem is I can't seem to get low action without buzzing, even though I've adjusted everything to perfection.
But I believe there's a reason for this, and that leads me to the refret.
It was done by EastonGuitars (I'm not sure if he did it himself because I haven't asked him yet), but I'm sad to say it was a poorly executed job.
Several frets are to wide for the fretboard and are sticking out on the lower side causing my hands to get scraped up and the strings to get stuck underneath.
The frets are not totally leveled either.
I expected more from someone like EastonGuitars.

Also, there's something wrong with the nut. When I depress the bar to a certain piont there's a "click" sound coming from the nut. I've learned it's coming from the 3rd or 4th string because it only clicks when those strings are locked. I can't seem to find out what causes it. I've also used locking screws from another nut, but it's still there. Feels like the whole nut is moving, but it's fastened tightly??
This should have been detected.

So for the moment I'm not amazed, because it feels like an average $600 guitar, only more solid.

It doesn't feel right disclosing that in an open forum.

Okay, I'm cool with that
I saw that you live in scandinavia, like me (Sweden)
I'm just curious how much it would cost to order a Jackson from the states and then ship it over here. I don't know how much they cost in Norway, but in Sweden, the prices are at least doubled (compared to US)

Do you think you can send me a PM about what you paid? That would be awesome

breadfan,

I live in Norway and the prices here are at least as insane here as what you describe them to be in Sweden.(see my reply to your "import" post)

however, we shouldn't state exact prices paid here on the forum because this can cause problems for the dealer. (they are below Jackson's Minimum Advertised Price policy)

this means that Jackson feels none of their dealers should advertise Jackson products for less than a certain amount of $$$...that is why you have to call or e-mail many dealers to get prices.
This may seem awkward at first, but it will definitely save you cash!

I am in the process of ordering a Jackson from the states, and I will say this:
you will definitely save a -lot- of money on importing a USA Jackson model to Sweden, but also on an import(Japanese) Jackson model (although the savings won't be as big, it should still be cheaper than getting it locally)

Another big plus also, is that some of the dealers in the USA have a rather large stock so it's easier to find what you want/like.

The downside is obviously not being able to try it out before you buy it, but this shouldn't be a problem as long as you stick to the reputable dealers here on the JCF!

cheers,

- Rune.
