Re: Question regarding Dave Mustaine KV1

since I am in Japan, I think that 1600 US is cheap for a korina KV1.
They sell here for TWICE that amount!
All I can say is that please check that there are no flaws and that indeed it is mint condition.
And if you have a chance to play it first before paying for it, then that would be the best.
However, please note that if this was 1998 , that is (about)the price for a brand new KV1.

Re: Question regarding Dave Mustaine KV1

is Korina considered to be a higher grade of wood?? Or is it simply an appearance thing? So the DM KV1 was about $1600 US new? I guess the price is slightly inflated because there are no more produced.

What are your thoughts on the Marty Friedman Kelly? It only has one pickup and a volume knob.

I've read it has some issues with balance when you play it standing.

I'm also guessing it costed less than the DM KV1. Are there any differances in the necks of these two?
      thanks.

While I am no expert, it seems that yes, Korina is a higher grade of wood since at the custom shop, Korina has a higher price. Other JCF members, please do correct me if I am wrong.
As for the KE1 (Marty Friedman Kelly), it is also a very cool axe. I also happen to own one, and I do not have any problem with balance. Like the KV1 it has excellent craftmanship and rips even though it only has one pickup. I also do not see any differences with the necks of these two guitars. As for price, yes you are correct. At least here in Japan, a used KE1 (mint) would cost about $1,800 while a used KV1 (mint) would be about $3300. I can only imagine that it will be a whole LOT cheaper there in the USA.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I think it's mainly because korina is more rare than say, alder. It's supposedly hard for the shops to get ahold of it. But it is highly appreciated for it's tonal properties as well.

If you are looking for a mint '97 KV-1, one that I sold about 6 months ago is back up on ebay. A collector bought it and it had not a SINGLE blemish or ding or spot where it was breathed on funny when I sold it. By far the nicest I ever owned. It's the black pearl KV up on ebay right now - BIN $1300, which is less than I sold it to him for. The seller is also a very nice guy whom I chat with occasionally still. He offered it to me first but I just can't swing the funds. Someone here should jump on that. I've had a lot of DM Kv-1's pass through my hands but none were as nice as this one !

Ya, I saw that one too, but it sold instantly before I could bid. Thats ok though, I just bought a Peavey XXX 212 combo so I should build the "fun" account back up a bit. I will still be looking for a KV1 DM on ebay though. Thanks to all that contributed, you've helped immensly in building my knowledge of my fav guitar.
