    Re: \'86 dimas pics & a couple o\' questions

that NO inlay neck may have been original. my aug.86 soloist has the new style logo R & made in USA after, my DEC 86 bolt on is the same, i also have a bolt on neck from jun 86 that has the old logo TM & made in USA under. Both JUNE neck & aug soloist both have SD straight tab tuners. from what ive seen late 85 & 86's used both logos, & from Nother post I think we came to the conclusion there is NO set date that Jackson switched logos. & both of my bolton necks have CAPs.

the neck holes should be drilled out & dowelled with maple, then redrilled. yes the toothpic & glue will work but dowelling is the correct way to do it & will IMHO much beter

Thanks Jim. I kind of suspected it might be a 90's era neck and this would support that -- I knew I had seen that style of logo before but couldn't pinpoint where. The logo appears to have been silkscreened (I can't make out any decal outlines anyway).

        Re: \'86 dimas pics & a couple o\' questions

j2379 -- maybe you're right -- it is properly drilled for the '86 era "right angle" tuners. However there are a few other things that are not typical:

        (1) the clear coat -- most '86 necks were oil finished. Is your '86 bolt on neck clear coated?

        (2) the lack of any markings -- my other guitars all have the work order number scribbled on the inner part of the heel somewhere either in permanent marker or pencil.

        (3) the "Made in U.S.A." has significantly bigger letters than others I have seen from '86.

Unfortunately Jackson won't do verifications anymore.. would love to see what the log says on this one!

          Re: \'86 dimas pics & a couple o\' questions

Bert, I just took a look at some fake decals I have and the logo on your inlayless neck looks alot like it. The size and placement of the "R" especially. Here is a pic of a black one (as a white wont show up) next to my '86.

Now, this fake decal isn't totally absurd. It is almost identical in every way to my '92 Coors Light silkscreened logo in every way dimensionally. The guy who made the screens for these must have used a 90's guitar for the picture to create the screen.

nope none of mine have clear coat. & my 86 bolton has no markings on the neck heal at all. but the 86 neck i have has writting all over it. & its dated & stamped Mike Eldred.
on the NO inlay neck is the truss rod route & scarf joint the same as jacksons

Looks like the unmarked neck could be from a
USA DK1. A friend of mine had one and it looked just like that. I believe those were made around 96ish.

Thanks for the info everyone. Richard -- I'm holding on to it for now, at least until I get the "new" neck properly mounted. If I decide to sell I'll post to classifieds.

                    Re: \'86 dimas pics & a couple o\' questions

I might be a little late posting to this topic, but I just emailed jim to see if he can post the picture I sending him of 2 "genuine" original san dimas era "diecut" jackson decals .
these are '83-85 vintage..one white & one black, hopefully the yellowish outline of the clear portion of the decal shows up clearly confirming their authenticity......
the made in usa after the N is a very late '86 post buyout changeover ,at which point the logo was now silkscreened rather than a decal and also carries the "R" instead of "TM"..[I am sure during the changeover you will see the old logos used on some guitars out of serial number sequence but it wont be on many of them]....
original dimas decals are ONE piece ,there is NO seperate "made in usa" it is full a part of the logo itself....besides that, it is very easy to tell the difference between a decal and silkscreen.. a white silkscreen logo always appears more white [being paint thus thicker] than a decal which is ultra thin and allows the black from the headstock face to bleed through making the white cast a greyish hue..........
recently in a converstaion with a former ft. worth manager [predating kevin], I was told that a rub off type logo was used as early as '88 to do repairs inhouse at the texas mothership facility,as they werent set up for major paint/screening work...he did send me one for my collection etc. and I would be inclined to believe this was the case ,as it is a costly process for a knockoff artist to make that medium of lettering and they seldom are the identical size.... I would be curious to know if this was used during kevin eastons reign at the mothership, maybe he could add to this....
                    best, john

                        Re: \'86 dimas pics & a couple o\' questions

My "Made in USA" is seperate but clearly looks cut off of the bottom of the "N" and moved to the side! The uneven cut at the bottom of the "N" perfectly matches the "Made in USA" cut. My guitar is dated Feb. 86' and sports the "TM" and SD style tuners.

Manyaxes -- my May '86 (log verified and legit!) is the same:

Definitely two separate decals, though it's not 100% clear if the "Made in USA" part was cut from the bottom of the Jackson part (it sure could be though, it's just hard to tell for sure since if it is it's a very clean cut).
