Those JJPs seem SERIOUSLY underrated so $400 is a KILLER DEAL!!!!!! Toejam recently bought one for about that price as well, so hopefully he'll be around to give you some information on it... or you can send him a Private Message.

Congratulations on the smokin' deal!

Yep, I got mine for $400 from another board member who didn't sell it on ebay. It's a mahogany body and neck. The only change I did to mine was put on a black speed knob instead of the amber one it came with. The DiMarzio Super Distortion sounds awesome! I love the feel and playability of this guitar. It is a little small and strange looking since it's a Dinky Les Paul, but it's a tone monster!! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=2577662160

Here's a pic from the '97 sales catalog. http://www.jacksonmuseum.com/archive...f-97-page2.jpg I think they were only made that one year. Matt from Mattsmusic.com (also a board member here) has one that he modified with a Graphtech nut,
Sperzel tuners, Duncan hot rails in the neck, Duncan Distortion Trembucker in the bridge. I'm still waiting to see a pic of that one.

Here's another from the Jackson website archives. http://www.jacksonguitars.com/resour...age=tsbJJP.jpg

Brain McD from Fender/Jackson also has one, but he says his is dead sounding. I know he said he was putting in a DiMarzio Air Zone pup and a Tone Pros bridge to see if it would sound better or not.

I believe another member here, Jerry From Ghana, is also getting one of these. They rock!!!!

Speaking of the man, there he is!

What IS a speed knob, Toejam? Got a pic?

And in the auction you won that JJP from... it says the scale length is 24"... but a Les Paul scale length is 24.75". I'm sure the seller meant that though...

Also, if I remember correctly, Matt (aka mattsmusiccenter) has one as well that he modded the crap out of.

Yes, it is a 24.75" Gibson scale. Kenn just described it wrong. And the speed knob was the original knob on it, I just changed the color. It's what you find on a lot of Gibsons. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=38086

Ahh, thanks. So THAT'S what Les Paul and SG knobs are called.

Yep. And the other knobs they use are called bell knobs, like this: http://members.aol.com/stratotone/hamerflame.jpg

Some people also call the bell knobs tophats, but tophats are a little flatter on top like these: http://www.music123.com/item/?itemno=117977

Re: Jackson JJP Les Paul

I had a 84 Jackson bolt on strat that I played as my main guitar for years. When I picked up the JJP I pretty much stopped playing the strat because the JJP plays so well. I'll post some pics of mine once I get off my ass and take some. Some of the mods I made solved tuning problems (Graphtech nut, Sperzel tuners) and others added tone and versatility (put a single coil in the neck position and replaced the DiMarzio with a Duncan TB2B). If Jackson was ever going to build one of thesethings again, I'd like to see a JJP with a maple top on it just to add a tiny bit more bite to the tone. Overall though, the JJP is my favorite guitar to play.

whats the neck carve/profile on this bad boy?
is it like thin like a soloist or is it like a baseball bat like an at-1?
