• Difference betw SL1 / SL2 / SL3?

I saw a local store selling a new Jackson SL3.

It has natural color flame top, matching headstock overlay, S-S-H, double locking tremolo. In short, it looks like it has the same specs as the SL1.

So... what makes it different from the SL1? (btw, what is a good price range for a new SL3? I think the store has a really good price for it and may just go for it)

And the SL2 on the Jackson site has humbuckers, is that the only difference between SL1 and SL2?

Isn't SL3 an Jackson Import? Only SL1 and SL2 are USA Select.

the SL-3 is MIJ the SL-1 is a U.S. made one.
fretboard on the SL-3 is rosewood instead of ebony on the SL-1. the FRtrem used on the SL-1 is an original FR I trem. and on the SL-3 it is a TRS-like trem.
the PUs are duncan designed on the SL-3 and originals in the SL-1.

i think these are the main differences between both guitars.

Exactly! In brief the SL3 is a Japanese made SL1 with the differences Joe pointede out.Having said that,it is an excellent guitar.

Actualy the pups on the SL3 are the same as the ones on the SL1. The biggest difference on the SL3 is MIJ, rosewood board and the Floyd.

Some other cosmetic differences in the SL3 from it’s USA counterparts is that is has MOTO inlays rather than real MOP, and the top on transparent models is veneer instead of the thicker maple cap used on USA models.

I thought the SL3 was discontinued like the SL4. The SL4 was like an SL2, except it only had 22 frets.

Binding...you forgot binding...SL3s don't have binding...

So in other words, besides cosmetic differences (no binding, rosewood instead of ebony), and the licensed floyd, the SL3 is quality wise pretty much on a level with the USA SL1?

And yes, the one I saw in the store does have real Duncans (JB in bridge, hotrails in middle and neck).

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">No, because you simply cannot ignore those components! Not to mention, one of the biggest factors in differences between the Japanese and American made Jacksons is wood selection and how they are actually constructed. USA Production guitars are still made in small batches of 15 guitars which keeps quality control in better check.

You can find new SL3's for $700 to $800 if you look around. Maybe less. You can find very nice used SL3's for $500 to $600!

The Sl3 is still on Jackson's web site but does not necessarily mean they are being produced on 2004.
