Re: Rory\'s $80 pawnshop score

OK, now it's my turn on this thingy....

Whether the body is actually a Jackson or not is hard to tell. I have never, in my 22+ years of playing, seen anyone route out the back of a horn on a guitar.

As far as the way that lower horn looks, it does in fact look out of place. But this could be due to the angle that the guitar is. If you'll look at the neck of the guitar, you'll see more light reflected off the bass side of it. This tells me that the guitar is not being viewed dead forward... Since I'm in the office, I can't test that theory with any Dinkies that I own...

From the picture that neck looks as trashed as I've ever seen one. I've heard of many people going trough to the truss rod when trying to flatten out a neck, but whoever did this must have put the sander down, went to grab a bite to eat, and then came back to turn it off.

The pickups look like Austin Powers' teeth. They're all crooked and stuff. I didn't know Stevie Wonder did pickup installs... Alas, this is just one of many telltale signs that the previous owner(s) beat this guitar like a baby seal. (thanks to Sully for that phrase, I'm totally offending just about everyone I use it with)

To the new owner: Congrats if this one makes you happy, but to the rest of us it just seems like you spent 80 bux on parts. Some salvagable, some not so salvageable.

The body reminds me of an old Yamaha RGX, it has a very similar lower horn.

Me personally....I would find the guy that abused it so bad and slap the s*** out of him. If it sounds good and you like it then more power to you but I would be truly sick about the way it was treated.

Shit dude, just put the neckplate on eBay and you'll probably triple your money. Not a bad investment in my books. I think you did ok.

                        Re: Rory\'s $80 pawnshop score

nice score but as others have said I doubt the body is even a Jackson. Certaintly not a SD route of the control cavity which would be with that low of serial no. Parts guitar but what a steal for 80 bucks...congratulations

                          Re: Rory\'s $80 pawnshop score

Although the knob and switch position could be charvel/jackson, the body shape is not, nor is the comfort bevel... and what's up with the electronics cavity... that's not C/J either.

Trem cover, if it was a dinky custom, it could be made without one... my dinky strathead was not routed for a trem cover in back... or drilled for one either....

Still, nice neck and plate for $80.

I'll buy the plate for $80

is it just me or does it look like the truss rod is hanging out of the back of the neck ? //Steve
