• JJP serial number?

My JJP (bolt-on Dinky Les Paul) has an Ontario neck plate with serial number 004541. The guitar was only made in '97, I believe. Is this serial consistent with other JJPs or other Jackson models, or was this just randomly thrown on? Just curious.

Interesting. You sure there's no number on the last fret? I thought those were plate-less?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Nope, nothing stamped into the board at all. I believe just the Scott Ian JJs have no plate and the number on the fingerboard. The Kelly XLR I had also had no plate with the number on a sticker on back of the headstock.

Reason I ask is because there was a guy on Ebay last year or before that was parting out a JJP, and I asked him about the serial, and he said it had no plate. I asked him to check the end of the board and he said it was there (can't recall the number now).

Also, I thought the old MOAIP pages said the JJ and JJPs were the only board-stamped bolt-ons.

Hmm, that's strange. I emailed Matt @ Matt's Music and Brian McD @ Fender/Jackson and am waiting a reply back from them about any more info they can give me, as they also own JJPs. I don't really know much else about them, but they've got killer archtops with mahogany necks and bodies, and the DiMarzio Super D sounds awesome in it! Maybe I'll see if Kevin Easton remembers any more about them.

Archtops? I thought they were single-hum flattops like an LP Special, but with the one-hum thing

Or is it like a contoured top - bevels/slopes around the edges of the front, but flat across the top?

Not flat at all (just the back, of course). They're hard to photograph, but definitely an archtop. It's got the smallest control cavity I've ever seen, too.

I got it from Kennslp. Here's the auction of his when he had it on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=2577662160

Re: JJP serial number?

I almost bought one last year but it had a neckplate off an import so I could not verify mfg.It was all mahogony natural finish 1 SD 1 vol.
No serial number on the fretboard.Very cool guitar and its new owner lives close by so I will get another look at it I'm sure.Kevin E.told me there were prototypes out there some seialized on the neck some on the plate, but did have USA ontario neckplate slightly recessed.

Re: JJP serial number?

Cool. Thanks for the info, Richard. Brian McD just got back to me and said his has just a blank chrome (sort of smoked chrome) plate. His is also natural mahogany and looks really sweet! Not sure if his has a serial number on the board or not. The pic he sent looks like there's no inlays at all on the board, but maybe it's just the lighting of the pic. I'll ask him and see if he's got any more info.

Hmm, Brian says his is definitely a proto (for Marty Friedman, and it's got the dice inlay at 12th fret like the Scott Ian JJ). And I did notice that the side dots are on the bottom of the fingerboard... he says it's because his has a left-handed neck on it. The pic he sent doesn't show the headstock either, but I assume it would be the same 3+3.

The dots on the one I looked at were small pearliod.Very tasteful I'm going to try and locate the guy that bought it and trade him out of it because the neckplate issue does not seem to be a killing point to the value of these guitars.I just don't know why it had a import(India)neck plate on it.I do know it came from the MF warehouse in Knoxville Tenn.I would like to know how many were made in the 1 year of production. Nice one, Gus! The dots are also small on mine, white plastic. I don't know how many of these were made, but so far it seems like mine's got the only regular USA serialized plate.

Found this custom with two humbuckers and block inlays on a German site. Check it! http://tinyurl.com/2tg3c
