Re: UPS fucked up JCF-01-13

Please update this thread and let us know how it works out. I had fedex damage an amp. It took a several months, but they eventually paid up. I have heard horror stories out UPS insurance claims.

Johnny Mac, I like to hear your advice too. I'm sure one days the brown gorilla will catch up with me too...

Well....Sorry to say this.... But welcome to the club. I had a SLATQH damaged by UPS just last month. It wouldnt be so bad if you had a regular production guitar. It's hard to put a value on a LTD run like that. Best of luck to you man!

You know what pisses me off, is that they (UPS) don't even deny they handle them rough. When I shipped my guitar to Sully I wanted the regular ground shipping and the lady kind of warned me, she says that they handle things "pretty rough" on regular ground. So, I spent a little more for the supposed "better handling". I dont know if it was any better, for all I know they handle them rough all the way around... and was suckered into paying $20 extra bucks to ship the guitar or they do handle them better...ggrrrrrrr its frustraiting!

That reminds me I need to give Sully a call.

It makes me sick every time I read one of these horror stories. Someone needs to start a shipping company soley for the use of fragile goods. Best of luck to you. I hope it works out.

Dude, I am so sorry. That totaly bites. I had a bro that worked as a packer at UPS for about a year. The horror stories he would tell about how they pack those trucks, especialy during the holidays...I've used Fed Ex or the regular post office ever since. My condolances again, bro. Keep us up to date.

That sucks ass dude!

Correct me if I am wrong here, but if you file a damage claim with UPS, do they not take the merchandise in question once the claim has been filed and ready to be paid? I had this happen with a cheap Dean I snagged off the 'bay once, the head stock snapped off in shipping, when I called UPS and spoke with my rep I was told that they would take the guitar once payment was made. I asked several times, can't I get my money (it was insured) and keep my product, I was told no, once the claim is under way and ready to be closed, paid in full, they take the damaged merchandise in question.

Just wondering if this is still the case, if so , your better off eating it and keeping the guitar. This WAS about 4 or 5 years ago...but still...

Anyway, good luck dude!

Mike

Re: UPS fucked up JCF-01-13

Make sure you keep the box and all packaging materials. Hopefully things go well with the claim. UPS claims are no fun and they will do what they can to blame it on the shipper. Sometimes if the box has no visible damage they will deny a claim saying it was not properly packed within the box (which is usually the problem). You have to make sure the headstock cannot make contact with the end or bottom of the case under any circumstance. This can be hard to do with some cases.

As for UPS keeping the guitar, it would have to be totally written off for that to happen. They most likely will make you get an estimate (GMW) to have it fixed and cut a check for that amount.

Damn, WTF is wrong with UPS . My condolences, I can imagine how you feel. I hope UPS pays your claim. From now on, whenever I buy a special axe, I'm going to us Fed Ex Overnight. The less time it spends in there hands, the better.

FedEx Overnight isn't much better - I got an Archtop Soloist from a fellow JCF'er that way and F'edEx split the nose.

The JCF01 cases don't allow for very much movement, if any. These originally came straight from Jackson to the buyers, not to the dealer, and they were packed at Jackson. The case was wrapped in two short pieces of bubblewrap (big bubble), one at each end on either side of the handle, and then put in the shipping carton. No packing inside the case, nothing else between the case and carton but those two single layers of bubble wrap. If that's good enough packaging for the manufacturer to ship them out and none of them get damaged in shipping, then this is a clear-cut case of the Samsonite Apes playing frisbee with a guitar.

After reading all those depressing stories about guitars being damaged in shipping I wonder why you still keep using UPS? While I was at the US I had to deal with UPS, Fedex and USPS on more than several ocassions. If I were you, I'd go with USPS. Nicer people, they don't have to be as cheap as possible and I believe their staff is more careful with the packages. I can't say a bad word about them. My opinion, though.
That's my policy of normalising the free market. If you (the seller, shipper, and whoever else) don't care about the money that I'm willing to pay you, I'll pay even more...somewhere else. If we all go by that rule, all those cheap shit companies will sooner or later disappear. That's the way I see it.
I'm sorry that #13 had to prove unlucky. I never considered 13 an unlucky number. I lived for 21 years under number 13

THAT BLOWS!!!
Good luck - I have had an amp and a cabinet damaged by them (yes, heavy item, but the amp was in a CALZONE custom case made for it - they cracked the case !!!). And I still had to fight like hell for reimbursement - luckily, in both cases, the seller was a stand-up guy.
Best of luck....
