• PC! Humbucker Replacement?

Anyone ever thought (or Done)a replacement of the humbucker on a PC1. I just got my PC1 Chlorine, and there is a quality to the lead sounds that kinda bugs me...maybe its due to the maple fretboard...

Anyone happy with their Hum replacement?

I don´t think the maple fretboard should make such a difference. I believe Duncan has a two-week returnpolicy, and DiMarzio might have one too, so just try as many as you can. I imagine a Duncan Custom could sound really good in a mahogany/maple combo

i had the same problem. the super 3 wasn't compatible with my rivera amp. i tried a lot of different pickups, evolution (too muddy), paf pro (to weak), the duncan custom custom (that one was great, but not a trembucker and i'm anal about things lining up), now i have a JB in there. surprisingly it isn't bright like one would expect, and now it sounds great with my rivera!! just be careful that you don't fuck up the little plug that goes to the circuit board. it's really small and rather flimsy.
GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

You might find the Custom to be a bit muddy in mahogany compared to other models, even with a maple top. I'm leaning towards a Pearly Gates these days for that reason. Even in a thin mahogany body like the SLS, the Custom has a lot less high-end than all my other pickups (which means I either gotta replace it or create special patches in my ADA for it).

I also wasn't very fond of the Super3 in the PC-1 (koa-version) and after a few tries I found "my" humbucker for the pc-1. It's a Dimarzio FRED

Hmm a JB? I had to take one of those out of my ESP Stephen Carpenter, not a great combo IMO...I have heard good things about the duncan customs...maybe I will check that out...

My PC1 actually has the Koa back...apparently one of the original run...what sounds good with Koa?

Thanks for the responses! Sorry if this is in the wrong forum....

Thats really interesting, I thought the fred was a neck pickup? What type of music do you play?

I find my PC1 to be really "bright" sounding sounds like the custom or the fred could balance off the treble of the koa body...Thanks for the responses!

I have installed a Dimarzio Breed in my Chlorine PC1 & have been very please with it.I was told you have to be careful with what pickups you put in the PC1 guitars because the Sustainer was designed to be used with the Super 3 pickup. When I bought my Chlorine PC1 someone had already replaced the pickup & done a bad job of it at that......It had a Super distortion pickup in it & it howled like crazy!!!I tried several different pickups in dimarzio's line & in Duncans line but ended up with the Breed & have been happy ever since.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I don't know, if the Fred is a neck pickup, but it works for me on the bridge I play almost everything, except brutal distorted sounds - mostly rock, 80's metal, sometimes 50's/60's rock'n roll. Amp is a Hughes & Kettner Triamp MK2.

I don't think the Fred pickup is classified as just a neck pickup. Most of the time if they are intended to only be used in 1 postion it says it on the box, like the EVO says "Bridge" or "Neck" right by the name on the package.I have heard a Fred in the Bridge also & it sounds really good.....maybe like a hot version of the PAF Pro with a little more mid's.
