7243 could be the work order number which is typically different from the serial number. My '88 also has work order number written in those places which is similar to but not the same as its plated serial #.
Well, guys, my prayers to the Jackson Custom Shop Gods have been answered. In the form of an email, no less.
Here's the skinny straight from Tim Wilson himself: (ADMINS: this is paraphrased, not his actual email)
Serial Number is 7342, Work Order number is 7243. Funny coincidence, huh?
Dinky Strat, Built 1/31/90. 1 hum, 1 slanted single coil, scalloped heel and horn, Schaller trem (clearly the Floyd is the replacement as many have surmised), black metallic, and most importantly:
Maple Fingerboard with pearl sharkfins.
This one's legit, my bruthas. Many props to Tim and the folks at the custom shop for answering my questions -- that's a way cool move on their part.
Very cool score.
It reminds me of the Hamer Californian, which has a similarly exaggerated super-Strat body shape and the same pickup layout (well, mine did, anyway). They were great guitars, too. Only problem was, the 27-fret neck confused the heck out of me.
Anyway, congrats on getting this cool and very unique guitar!
Ya how does one go about getting this type of info? I have a jackson SnakeSkin Strat Bolt on San dimas plate #5120 and I'd love to see the work order that went with that Plate.
Please Share the Wealth!!
It is a bummer that they are not sharing SD Chavel work orders any more. I have a few and I only know that 1 is all original. The others are suspect and I would like to find out what they are missing. Plus, I have a loose plate for what I think is a star. It has the extra hole drilled in it like my old star does.
I agree, very nice. I think if I had it I would send that body off to GMW for a nice paint treatment. That neck is just KILLER!
I think snakeskin would look great with that neck.
