I came across a 1989 Jackson strat. The guitar looks to be real and all original to me.I just have 1 question. Is it normal for an older Jackson not to have that stamp with all the work order info in the trem cavity? All the ones I have ever seen always have that black stamp and then the info penciled in.This one is just painted the same color as the body.It even has the clear coat over the paint. Thanks for any help,Paul

Re: GOT A QUESTION FOR ALL YOU OLDER JACKSON GUITAR COLLECTORS
Many of the 87-89 guitars didn't have the rubber stamp in the back of the trem cavity or at the heel of the neck.
If the tremolo cavity is completely painted inside, see if there is a layer of masking tape under where the springs would be. They would use that to cover the info during the painting process. If you don't see any bare wood in there, or what appears to be masking tape under the springs and paint, then it's been refinished.
To see that it's real, check the Work Order number (which will be in the trem cavity, and on the heel of the neck, usually penciled in and see that they match... the work order number for the neck and the body might be a few digits off, if it is, then that's generally acceptable and most likely original too).
These guitars have had some parts swaps on occassion, but they're rarely faked. Too much effort to fake a guitar that isn't really worth all that much. The 2nd Amendment: America's Original Homeland Defense.

Re: GOT A QUESTION FOR ALL YOU OLDER JACKSON GUITAR COLLECTORS
Well it's altogether possible that it's either a production guitar (limited batch of some sort), or that it was just done like that.
My 89 Strathead is painted in the cavity, but it has no screws or route for a backplate, and was a Grover garage guitar (project) from what I understand.
All of the custom 87-89 Jackson pointies I've had (3) did indeed have bare wood in the trem cavity, one without the stamp and two with... I think only one of them had the stamp on the neck heel though. The 2nd Amendment: America's Original Homeland Defense.

my custom shop bass, number 1991, doesn't have the stamp either, just the pencil and what looks like a sharpie pen marks. it's got a guy's name too. the numbers on the neck and body are close but not the sameThe Truth Hurts Only If It's Supposed To !

6583 has the trem cavity stamp and a stamp on the neck. W/O number matches on the body and neck.
Dated 8/87 silver blue metallic and then some initials in pencil but they are too faint to read.
Also it has the larger electronics cavity route.Does anyone know for sure when the larger route was started?I'm looking at one in the 1400 ser #range and it has the San Dimas route.Really? well screw Mark Twain.

I think the route was first started in 86 some time but didn't show up on a majority of guitars until after the move to Ontario. The 2nd Amendment: America's Original Homeland Defense.

Re: GOT A QUESTION FOR ALL YOU OLDER JACKSON GUITAR COLLECTORS
I have had a few with the stamps. The '87 red lightning bolt on had the stamp in the trem spring area and neck, '89 Dinky 24 had stamps in both places, '88 Soloist Custom has one in the springs area, and my '88 Archtop soloist has the stamp in the springs area. All body stamps are clearcoated, but no pigmented paint below.

Re: GOT A QUESTION FOR ALL YOU OLDER JACKSON GUITAR COLLECTORS
The one I am looking to buy is a 1989.In the trem cavity it is painted and clear coated. No visible stamp or pencil marks. If you look close it looks like there is a piece of tape under the paint and clear coat.I really looked at the guitar and it is not repainted or messed with in anyway. The only thing that was changed was the pickup. What do you guys think? Also I have another Jackson strat it has a sandimas plate #6088.Can anyone tell me what year it is.

Re: GOT A QUESTION FOR ALL YOU OLDER JACKSON GUITAR COLLECTORS
6088 would put it in the 87-89 era.The ser #s are not in order in that time period so you will have to look under the tape in the trem cavity or neck pocket.Really? well screw Mark Twain.
