Re: Shannon Soloist
Mike Shannon was one of the pioneering Jackson Master Luthiers. He created some of the most legendary Jacksons and Charvels all the way back when they were made out of the original SD shop.
The Shannon Soloist is a neckthru Jackosn USA Soloist, made by Mike Shannon, to the same specs as the San Dimas made Jackson Soloists. They are very limited in number. There are 56 in blue ghost flame (BGF) finish, 2 white ones, some black ones, some green ones, and reportedly an orange one or two. They are really nice guitars. If you are looking to find a newer soloist with the same general feel as a vintage SD version, these guitars will give you that. They are signed in a silver or whitish pen, usually on the back of the headstock. Several members here own one or more of them. I have a BGF which is one of the more readily available since they made 56 of them. Black ones show up sometimes but I wouldn't get your hopes up about finding a green one or a white one.

Re: Shannon Soloist
They also have chrome hardware, which is a little "different" because you "normally" don't see chrome hardware on solid finishes like black and white.
Also, there are different pickups than the current SL1 Soloist. In the Shannon, they came stock with Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates and I think the single coils were two SSL-5 Custom Staggered pickups. I'm not entirely sure though since mine has a DiMarzio Super 3 hum and Seymour Duncan Hot Rails in it.
The headstock logo is also not in mother of pearl.
Brett's collection of Shannons is something to be in complete awe of, with one reason being that he has one of the only two white ones ever.

Re: Shannon Soloist
Also the neck on a Shannon has a slight pitch to it to accomodate the non-recessed trem.
I sold Brett the black one signed by the custom shop and it was the best playing guitar in the store period. No question. And Im not being biased at all. It even played better then the three SL1's we had at the time.
If you can find one get it.

Re: Shannon Soloist
And Gil, you know I'll always remember you for hooking me up with that one. It is one of the best guitars in my Shannon collection, and one that could never be replaced. Again, thank you.
Brett
Man, black is hard to keep clean. Those are finger smudges, not flaws. Damn.

Re: Shannon Soloist
Jim, they are not quite like the fat SD "Les Paul" 59 rounded necks. More so like the Soloist you refinished to red from natural. That had a slightly different profile than the pink one, which was fatter. They're in between those and the new ones."Got a crazy feeling I don't understand,
Gotta get away from here.
Feelin' like I shoulda kept my feet on the ground
Waitin' for the sun to appear..."

Hey Brett, is Mike's signature still on the back of the headstock for that guitar? I'm guessing he signed his name twice in total.
Here's mine which I am rather thankful for. To see more pictures, just replace the "1" at the end of the URL with higher numbers each time.
