  • RR1 - Poplar / Alder

I just noticed on the Easton Site that some of the RR1's for sale spec poplar bodies and some spec alder bodies. The Jackson site spec states that RR1's have alder bodies but there are variations. Does anyone know if there so many of each produced or is wood choice is an option when ordering the RR1?

I'm guessing thats an older model, as they used to be made from popular and now are made form alder?

    cheers, owain

      It's a typo, they're all alder. I'm 99% sure that's the case.

I'm with Thoraby. Possibly some early Rhoads may have been poplar, but AFAIK since 1996 (when the RR1 designation began) they have all been alder.

Thanks for the info. I have a Model 5 which I believe is maple thru with poplar sides. I'm expecting a '96 RR1 delivery soon. Do you guys have opinions on the tonal differences between poplar and alder?

My '96 and '98 catalogues mention poplar.
            The 2000 one says alder.

the final inspection card of my RR says 10/29/'98
so I guess it's poplar right? Or were all guitars for '98 made in '97?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Not much difference in tone. They're very similar. And, yes, all the Model series neck-thrus were poplar bodies. The bolt-on Model series were basswood, I believe.

A lot of earlier Jacksons were indeed made of poplar, then got switched over to alder later on.
