• Question about USA Soloist SL2HT (no pics yet)

I recently purchased a USA Soloist SL2HT with Black Ghost flames off of eBay. I got it the other day, and it plays like a dream. BUT, I thought the neck was pretty thick on it. I have a Jackson Soloist XL Professional (japanese) from 92 or 93, and the neck on the XL is SUPER THIN, way thinner then my SL2HT. I was surprised. It seems like my Marty Friedman Kelly, and Kevin Bonds RR necks are thinner then the soloist. Is this normal???

Jackson has 2 different neck styles .. regular and speed neck, the speed neck is thinner abd I'd assume is what whould be on your Friedman ...

Hey man, I had the same issue last fall. I have an '86 model 6 that I've had since new and was looking for a newer, better version of it. I picked up a practically new BGF SL2H Soloist off eBay for a crazy price ($895) but did not like the neck (and wasn't crazy about the pups). It was way thicker than my mod6. I ended up trading it with pedalgeek for a USA Wolfgang (that I sold anyway) but wish I had tried to find someone with a King V to trade because I want a pointy guitar and the KV has the speed neck.

BTW - my mod6 has a nice, thin neck but my good friend also got one, an '88 (firecrackle), that has a chunky neck.

If you are looking for thin, my 1990/1 Jackson Fusion Professional (Japan) neck is the thinnest of my 5 Jackson/Charvels. But that asumes you are talking bolt-ons. My 1992 RR1 has a nice neck, not as thin as the Fusion, but ggod.

I have a 2001 trans blcks SL2H-mah, and the neck on that is definitely "chunkier" than my other jacksons/charvels. but I love it, it's probably close to the Charvel Holldsworth profile neck that Chucksplatter just recently acquired. It takes me a few minutes to warm up on it , but then I play better on this type of neck than the thin ones.

My Model 5 and 6 have the same neck profile as my Soloist and Rhoads. It is definately bigger than the speed neck on my KE1, but I wouldn't describe it as chunky by any stretch.

I currently own 14 SL2H's and 1 SL1 and all of them have pretty much the same neck profile except for 1 of my SL2H which is a 2003 SL2H in Burnt Cherry Sunburst. Its neck is definitely thicker than the rest of the heard. Don't know why that is. I know that they're all shaped by hand so this may be the reason for the difference in measurement. Still an awesome guitar nonetheless!
