As much as I love the Floyd Rose tremolo, I think that this one is gonna flop. I just don't see it taking off. They should re-focus their attention to the current 6 and 7 string tremolos and possibly a fixed bridge version of the original Floyd.

Let me be the contrarian and say that I like the bare headstock look. The Jackson pointy headstock is a great design, and stands the test of time. Re: the Speedloader bare H/S, I predict we will all get used to the look, kinda like the 2000 Cadillac DeVille.

I saw once a pic of a guy who put a speedloader on a JEM, and he put kind of circular black covers on the tuning machines holes, and it didn't look as weird as when the head is fully bare.

BTW, the black cover things are part of the speedloader retrofit. I just wish they were gold.

Re: What models are getting the Speedloader trem?

I bought a speedloader for a project a few months back. I had it on a USA king V headstock repair for a while. It worked awesome. It takes more time to dial in the intitial setup, but it's worth it. I had left the tuners on and it didn't look all that bad, but it will never catch on. Too bad. I ended up putting the OFR back on before selling it. The speedloader is like a paper wieght now! I honesly don't know what to do with it. It's a great innovation. Better than Steinberger. Too bad.

I think the Speedloader sounds good on paper but makes your guitar look like a hunk of crap.
What happens too if it doesnt catch on and they stop makin strings for em?

The Speedloader is a fad idea. Reminds me of the headless Steinberger guitars in the mid 80's. Looks alien, mo mojo, no cool vibe. Maybee I'm just eternally old school - give me a non-recessed Orig. Floyd or a vintage bridge anyday.

I don't mind the look of it...kind of sleek & modern looking actually. But, what about what the weight of the keys & how they effect sustain? I read an article a while back about that. Maybe a pickguard style plate mounted on the front of the headstock would break up the look, and add the weight of the keys. Something pointy like a RR pickguard. Or, some kind of inlay above the Jackson logo...I dunno.

The Speedloader is a really good idea. I think Floyd is a little bit ahead of the curve on this one and it's going to sputter to a slow start, but should gain momentum within the next 5 years.
The Alumininum block on the trem keeps the weight down and adds some clarity IMO.
Plus, it will not matter if you break a headstock on your favorite player as long as you have the speedloader.

Has anybody tried the hardtail speedloader yet?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Besides the higher string prices and spotty availability of said strings, I think one of the things that's gonna make it flop is the insurmountable paradigm of what a guitar should look like. We're all used to a guitar with functional headstocks. God bless Floyd for his innovation, but like the Steinberger folks, I think we're just not ready for this large of a change.
