• Finishes and Color issues & questions??

I am getting ready to get into a new SL2H and I am trying to decide what color to get. I have a few issues:

1. The Jackson catalog and website don't do a very good job of showing the colors they offer. I have seen quite a few finishes on dealer websites and in person that look quite a bit different than the ones they show on the catalog. Why dont Jackson do a better job at showing what colors they offer, it makes it much better for the consumer.

2. Why dont they offer quilt top finishes on SL2H models? they do on the SLATQH... why is that so special to deserve a quilt top?

3. I see 3 internet dealers currently have Sea Foam Green (SFG) colored Jacksons in stock and that color isnt even listed in the catalog or on the website. WTF is up with that?

4. What is up with all the lame paint colors they offer that no one seems to get? like IVR, CRM, SSM, LABL, BKF, GLD, HOLO, EB, BKP, I mean I have never seen some of these colors on dealers websites or in stores. Why do they continue to offer them if no one buys them. With the WWW you think you would see them somewhere....???

5. Why dont they offer some wilder colors? Yellow gold pearl is awesome and I have one, but it seems they got rid of it. How about a metallic pink or hot pink, return of Yellow Gold pearl, a Brite mettalic purple, candy apple red (not the DCR one they have now), a puky green like the shannon soloist, ya know some good ol' 80's colors. and come up with some other good ones. Maybe the colors they have arent all that bad, but the catalog makes them look crappy. I know this happens with car brochures too.

I am curious to hear what other JCFers have to say about these colors. Please speak you mind, I wont be offended if you disagree with my views, thats what I am posting this for, to see what other people think. I jsut think maybe they could use a re-vamping on their color selection, and offer some quilt tops on SL2H and SL1 models.

So lets see what everyone has to say, maybe if we give Jackson some honest constructive ideas without being jerks they may listen to the consumers and try to offer what we want to buy.

I'm with you! Check out my last 2 posts. Trying to find a picture of the colors they offer is simply frustrating! Someo the ones I've seen in person are nothing like the color blocks of their catalog.

I'd be first in line for a quilt top SL-1 or 2!

Small comment: it is almost impossible to reproduce a color/graphic in a catalog 100% correctly. Especially the colors that contain metallic parts and similar effects. Light conditions when picture is taken, paper used, light conditions when viewed + 1000 other factors in the production makes it practically impossible. Professional photographers today can't do it or can't control all these factors from picture to final product.

1. I agree, but Jackson1 pretty much nailed it. Also, the catalog would have to be positively huge to show all of the colors on actual guitars, rather than the small color swatches. In the meantime, KEaston has some nice samples on his site:
Colors

2. Because then PC1s and SLATQHs would be less "special". Flame tops are standard and cool, too. I do prefer quilt myself too, though. But I understand why they do it and am cool with it. I suspect flametops are more accepted, too. Particualrly by non-Jackson diehards. i.e., Buyers who aren't regulars here.

3. I believe SFG is still offered. I would guess that it was just mistakely left out of the catalog.

4. Actually, I dig a lot of those colors. It's nice to have them offered, isn't it? Better to have too many options than not enough, huh?

5. I thought YGP was still offered, also. Again, maybe a mistake in the catalog? (...There were several other mistakes, you know.) With something like 60-plus color options on USA Selects, it's kind of hard to complain about it. But, yeah, I'd like some more wilder 80-ish colors, too. I'm guessing we'll see some of this at Summer NAMM. The color selection seems to have gotten better and better the last few years.

How about like when car dealers used to have actual color chips for you to take home. They were the real thing, real paint! I remember opening those up and smelling the fresh paint when I worked for a car dealer about 10 years ago. The paint was so fresh it still smelled like I was walking through an auto body paint shop. ANyway that would solve the paint issue for sure. as for the trans finishes, well thats another story. I dont know how to solve that .

G&L used to send out paint swatches applied to alder and ash squares. I have a set somewhere.

You know, it seems to me that Mesa boogie send out samples of all their finishes to their dealers. I saw someone selling a finish sample kit on ebay a while back. Hmmm.... maybe jackson could follow along....

Re: Finishes and Color issues & questions??

I think Jackson would be quite savvy to offer some wilder finishes, both solid colors and graphics, like in Tonemonster's avatar. I'm certain that there would be a niche market for it. Although I'm guessing you could still get a lot of those colors and graphics through the CS. But I do suppose that like so many things, Jackson can only offer a certain number of finish options on their standarized models from an economic and production standpoint.

I think I remember that at one time on the Jackson website they had it set up so that you could pick a guitar model and move your cursor over a list of the available colors for that model and the guitar would change to that finish......or am I high?
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I don't ever recall that on the Jackson site, but on the Peavey site when u choose the Wolfgang Custom, it does exactly what you described
