• PC1 Advice needed

Guys,

Before I go on - I don't want this thread to go down the direction of some others recently - this isn't to bitch about QC, it's to get some opinions on a 'feel' issue.....anyway:

I'm considering buying a new strathead PC1 - given some of the topics here, I asked if there were any issues with trem alignment and among other things, got the following text and pic in response:

"As for the string/pickup alignment, they go over the pole pieces, however they do not line up on the fretboard 100% perfectly even"

My question is - Will this affect the feel in any great way? Obviously, you bend from treble to bass strings, so there's no issue there, but is this sort of thing likely to result in me pulling the string off the treble side of the neck?

Any coments (not along the 'why do they let this happen' lines) greatfully recieved!

Cheers
Ian

That is an easy neck aligment fix. Loosen your neck bolts and pull the neck up until your strings line up down the fretboard better. That should do it.
Just one more guitar!

Yeah, that doesn't look quite right. It probably will make the high e slip off the board.

After looking at that picture above, I looked at my own Soloist and saw the same damn thing. I got a little scared for a moment.

Friggin'......... No wonder I've had to adapt my high E string vibrato technique when I first got this guitar.

Except it's a neckthrough, and I'm stuck with it!!!

You're better off it is just the opposite...Low E closer to the edge and high E further in on the board. I have run into this when switching my jackson trems (usually 580LP's) to OFR.

It's a really easy and painless fix, just do as the others mentioned above.

My PC-1 had the same issue. Not a big deal really for bolt-on necks.
As stated above, just loosen the neck bolts and give it a gentle tug in the right direction. Don't forget to detune before you loosen the bolts.
There should be a sufficient amount of play in the neck pocket for you to do this.

No big deal. Fix as mentioned above. The PC1 is a friggen awesome guitar and you will be happy when you get it.

But I am suprised to see that I must admit. However, since you bend up on the high e string anyway it does not look like it will affect playability and a lot of pups now are so perfected that I doubt you would lose any sound quality.

But that is suprising. I have a PC1 and it was flawless. I would just request the dealer to check it over before shipping now that you have seen this.

I'm a big string bender and I continue to have issues with my soloist due to the high e string slipping off the fretboard. For that reason, I rarely use my soloist guitars any more

I have done that same thing to several of my bolt-ons. Not a big deal.
Sometimes they shift during shipping or just everyday handling (and I mean day, after day, after day of use).
In one instance I had to have a new nut installed. No biggie.

Hmmm. I know that string placement like that does require an adjustment in playing style so be ready for it. That said, I have a mutt set up like that that actually plays really awsome once you get used to it. It really is only a matter of being more precice with finger placement and movement on the string. I almost think that it can be a blessing in disguise because it can force you to be more precise which is never a bad thing!

Ian that is way too close to the edge of the fingerboard and any string bending and you will definately be off the board. Be very careful indeed when you loosen the neck and try and move this over to the bass side as you could crack the treble side neck pocket as you will be forcing it. Is this a new guitar??? if so send it back for repair or you might run the risk of invalidating your warranty, just my opinion. Kammo1

Thanks for all your replies guys - I've decided that I don't really want to take the risk on trying to shift the neck on a brand new guitar, especially as sending it back ain't really an option as the guitar is in NY and I'm in the UK!
