• Maple neckthrough with SWAMP ASH body wings?

I'm just curious as to why I've never heard of a USA Jackson that is maple neckthrough with swamp ash body wings. We hear about how alder and poplar body wings are somewhat similar sounding, but what about swamp ash?

Don't give me any of this Fender Strat ash body bolt-on crap... those are common enough! However, I do have one question relating to that... are there solid-finished ash Strats? I did a quick scan on Fender.com and didn't see any. Warmoth mentions something about ash absorbing a lot of finish or something.

Just in case you're asking, I've been thinking about a Custom Shop Soloist that would have a maple neck and swamp ash body wings. Non-recessed Floyd trem, of course.

Sure, Jackson could do it. A lot of people like to keep just a natural finish on swamp ash because it has a nice looking grain. Here's my maple neck-thru with Swamp Ash body Carvin SC90 in Classic White.

I always forget that Carvin has ash body wings.

Now the question... how does it SOUND? Acoustically AND plugged in? (Don't ask me about the acoustic thing, that's just me. )

It sounds very nice, a little bright and spanky, and very lightweight. Sounds good acoustically, too, but I mostly play it plugged in. I believe Ken (WarriorX7) made most of his custom guitars out of swamp ash with finishes on them. That's his old garage and truck in the pic, too. Good, I like moderately bright guitars with top-smooth (darker) pickups and slightly chopped treble amp settings!

You have Super Distortions in that particular guitar now, correct? THAT much I paid attention to... I think.

Yep, Super D and Super 2 in it... with another volume and tone in place of the coil tap switches, and the regular 3-way selector is now a Petrucci 3-way switch to get the inner coils on in the middle position.

OK, you got me. It's not a Jackson. And that's birdseye maple, to be specific.

That is still one of the sickest Cs around!!! But you should have done a maple board and we both know it!!!

Nah. I have no regrets about the pao ferro f'board. It's awesome. ...In fact, I've recently been regretting not going with that on a new custom order. (...That one is maple. )

Re: Maple neckthrough with SWAMP ASH body wings?

Oiled neck? That is almost exactly how I would want my guitar!

I remember when you first posted pictures of that guitar... Very unique with the figured maple neck, pao ferro fretboard and swamp ash body too. That's almost what my brother's Warmoth bass is, without the fancy maple neck.

Is that a special RGF finish? Looks a little more "flamey" than usual, if you know what I mean.

Re: Maple neckthrough with SWAMP ASH body wings?

Nope, the neck is clearcoated. 'dems my preferences, and I'm sticking to 'em.

And, yes, that is a specially spec'd RGF graphic. First, it is red flames on a black body. ("Standard" RGF is on a deep red body.) The flames also have a lot more detail and a "burst" pattern to them. (On a standard RGF, the flames are each more uniform consistency and transparency.)

Wow! Pat, I never realized that your RGF was a neck through. Pretty darn cool. It's still one of my favorite ghost flame graphics that I've ever seen.

Pat , that thing kicks ass, but I need to know, Is it really a CHarvel CS, or is it a Custom shop Jackson SL1 with a Charvel Logo? that body looks dinky to me not full size strat.
BTW I love the pao ferro fretboard/24 fret!
Very very cool.
If this is our perdition, will you walk with me?

I have a friend who ordered this in a Rhoads, and he's not really happy with it. Sounds a little dull and lifeless, I think he has a EMG 85 in there. I sold him my mahogany KV Custom with EMG 85/81, and he says it sounds SO much better.
