Congrats Dave! Great score!
I'd put the covers on so it would look like a Jackson from that period. It's the third one built so I would respect the way it left the factory. It's part of history!
Thanks again all!!! As for the pickup decision, that's a tough one. I love the zebras as they look and sound tremendous, but like Jani, part of me wants to keep it all original! Thanks for the input!!
The pickups are not original, so putting the covers on would return the look, but not the true originality. If you plan on playing this piece a lot, I would leave the covers off to preserve them...if you ever decide to part with it you could put them back on to return the original look. I much prefer the look of the zebra's and would leave them be until I was ready to sell, if ever.
Thanks Rupe, I realize the duncans aren't original, but I did receive the originals with the covers. I just put a pair of covers over the duncans temporarily just to give an idea of the look. Thanks for the info though! -
Yeah, as far as keeping the original look. Here's what I would do: Leave the covers off and have a killer looking flametop/zebra coil combo. Then, if I ever sold it, put everything back to original to keep the value. Plus, the original parts have less wear. Just what I would do. Of course, I couldn't imagine selling that thing unless it played like a dog.

oh, I definitely will, I just thought you guys would like to see how it "almost" looked when original and what the thoughts were on it...
