I prefer the two switches. With a single 3 way, you would be killing the sustainer as you switched from one mode to the other. This can cause a change in tone, although only for a second, that is noticable.
My thing is, I'm not real crazy about the location of the switches. The tone knob can go bye-bye though... never use it anyway.

Not if you wire it for "off/sustain/sustain-w-harmonic".
