Well thanks to Sid, I found out something VERY interesting. It turns out that JA0003 is the catalog guitar from '88 catalog! Have a look, I took some comparison photos and scans of the catalog to show you the similarities and the serial number:
I've circled the most pronounced areas in green to look for and even though it looks like the color has faded a bit over the years, it's pretty easy to see the definite lines in the maple in certain areas. I also overexposed the catalog scan so that it would reveal the serial number a lot clearer as well. Sorry about the big pics but I wanted you to see every detail.
