He has done that to Alexi's guitars as well and for some other Finnish players too. I tried it today and it seems to work really well. According to Roope putting the springs the normal way causes cross tension on the strings.

One thing Jani. Cross tension is just natural effect. Thicker string pull harder, and because of that he put 2 springs where thin string are (in opposite or "cross" way of thick strings-low end). And 1 springs is on thick side, cuz there is less tension. That way dive bombing on low E string for example sounds better (and on some cheaper floyds string tends to stop vibrating after certain point, this way doesn't). That is benefit of putting springs that way.
There is no cross tension if you put it this or that way, cross tension is just "law of physics". It is always there but you get better floyd stability putting springs like Roope.

Micha - The pics make it look clean as the color is the shining black type but it's full of scratches and dings, the headstock has a minor repair close to the tip, the longer wing has some wood missing etc and the hardware was rusty when I got it. I cleaned and polished it with a Dunlop kit and it looks stunning. The yellow bevels really were a great idea. I wonder if this was the first one with those?

Hey Jani, here's a question about Roope's spring setup. Did you have to make any adjustments (truss rod, intonation, etc) after placing them like that?

I had to adjust the anchor screws a little and the tuning naturally changed a lot. I didn't check intonation too closely but might have changed a bit. The necks didn't react to it.
I still got two guitars I'm gonna try this on.

i talked to Roope 2 days ago and he mentioned that he sold the guitar back in 88, so he must have gotten the axe and gotten rid of it pretty much ASAP when the 24 fretters came in.

Thanks for the info! That's what he emailed me but didn't say the specific year. But all the pics / videos of it are from 87-88 so that's what I figured. What I don't get is that their website states the two 24 fretters as 87 but they don't appear anywhere until late 88. I believe they are from 88.

Thought I'd share this also - an old article from 88 where Stone guitarists talk about their gear and make fun of another local bands stuff. The guitars they mention
are of course RR2073 and RR2074.



Translation:

LOL! That one would be Roope.

12 000 FM is 2000 euro. That was in 87 so according to the inflation
calculator today it would be equal to 3362 euro.
