• Need your Advice!

Ok back when I was doing my custom spec I wanted a gold MOP logo and that was the one thing jackson couldn't do. Well John has very kindly talked to the custom shop about this and they are willing to do it, but they will be using a process to color the MOP so they can't guarantee if it will match the gold hardware. The inlays are abalone, and I had decided to go with abalone at the time. Now I have a choice to make. There is no guarantee the gold will look right but if it does it could look badass. Here is the link to the post from John. I need your advice cause I am having a tough time deciding on this one.

Let me know what you think, I need to make a decision by Monday at the latest, preferably tomorrow. Massive thanks to John for getting involved in this, thats the level of customer service that makes Jackson so awesome.

I'm no graphical wizard and the custom shop generator can't help me. Its a custom color (sort of a greenish/teal burst) that is on the headstock as well. All the hardware is gold. My main concern is that there is no way to guarantee that the process to color the MOP will make it look "gold" enough to match the gold tuners. If it doesn't match it might look funny. But then again the logo as it is in the spec sheet now would be abalone (like the inlays).

The color should look something like this,

Reverse headstock. I think it goes very well with the gold, the guitar I originally saw that color on had Gold hardware, abalone inlays and MOP logo. What I am really struggling with is if its worth the risk on such an expensive instrument, should I be true to my vision and hope the custom shop can nail it or should I play it safe?

hmm..Since the logo and the inlays would really look nice together in abalone, and if there is no guarantee on the color matching to the gold hardware, then for the price of a custom shop, I would stick with the abalone.

Yea I'm still talking with Matt about this, there is a nice picture from LMII of gold MOP that gives a nice feel for what it looks like. Stewmac also sells it. I'm not sure why Jackson would be coloring it themselves rather than using the real thing but I am sure they have their reasons.

imo, symmetry is key. if you went abalone logo and fins, stay with it.

                  Re: Need your Advice!

                  yep, matching headstock paint.

Symmetry is key but I was going for a color match to the hardware not the inlays. It works either way, but with them coloring the pearl by hand the risk seems high to me.

Thanks for the advice guys, keep it coming!

I'd stay abalone logo and fins.

                      Re: Need your Advice!

yeah, but what i was referring to symmetry was that you've got your hardware all one color, so you should have all of your inlay materials the same color. since you can't match your inlays to the hardware, you should have it match the logo. kwim?

I'd stick with abalone as well. Even if you get a solid replica of gold MOP it won't be the same as the hardware and IMHO contrasts look waaaaaay better than mismatches shades of the same color.

Yea I see what you mean. I was somewhat inspired by the JCF 01 though, which is ironic.

I think I'm gonna stay with the abalone though, its just to risky, even if they were able to get true Gold MOP to use, the color varies from shell blank to shell blank. Thanks for all your help guys.
