• 1998 Student Soloist

    Hello all.
I got this Jackson for Christmas...

All I know is that its a 1998. It's a Student Soloist basically. 22 frets. Rosewood fretboard. Non Recessed Floyd Rose. No Binding. Had Duncans but has EMG's now. Any idea how long they made this model or the model name or number? Thanks for the help!

Cool axe! Looks like Christmas has been good to you this year and in past years from the looks of your backline

Christmas was good. It's a sweet Jackson but I've never seen one like it. But then again, my Jackson knowledge is not what it should be...

And the cases behind the Jackson? Yeah, wish they were mine. They belong to the person who gave me the Jackson. Some nice ones in there...

They still made Student models in '98? I'm thinking it's older since it's got a non-recessed Floyd and only 22 frets.

I think this guitar, or one like it, was discussed in a thread in efraid of ebay a few months back....

Here's the serial number. UO6720. I don't think it's a Custom Shop. Wouldn't it have the CS logo?

                Re: 1998 Student Soloist

Another interesting point about this guitar. I believe it was meant to be a 24 fret Soloist, judging by the placement of the neck pickup. There is a small gap between the end of the fretboard and the pickup ring. Enough for 2 more frets. I find that interesting...

Not necessarily. Some people that have ordered Customs don't want the CS logo put on.

The White logo is painted on as well...

Interesting Jackson though. Doesn't seem like a Custom Shop one, but I've never owned a CS Jackson...

Yep. I'm pretty sure it was determined to be a limited run done by Victor Litz music in 98/99.

I should have pulled out the card before. Doesn't say much but for Model it says "SL ST" for Soloist Student, I assume. 2 Duncan Humbuckers. Color: MBTC? Any idea what that stands for? Date 11-12-98...

Got a link for that thread by chance?

Thanks. That's it, no doubt about it. Even with the pics gone, the description is dead on...

Anyone know how many were made?

Here is the story behind this Jackson. Forgive me for not saying this in the first post but I wanted to make sure it was cool before posting it...

It was given to me by Jim Root, guitarist for Slipknot and Stone Sour. I've known Jim for a long time. He's a good friend and I'm a fan of his music. The guys at Jackson gave this to him in 2000 or 2001. He was endorsed by them at the time and they gave this to him saying it had sat in the warehouse for a while. He dug it because it was like a Model 5. He took it home, played a couple of notes on it, broke a string, and put it away. I come along and find it. Restring it and play it everytime I'm at his house. So it became my Christmas present. I do believe it was one of those that were made for that limited run, but somehow stayed behind in the warehouse for a couple of years...

So those guitars behind the Jackson are not mine, they are his. I am quite impressed with the quality of some of the new Charvels he has. Very nice...
