Finally!!!! My concept for this guitar was to take a PC1 and give it a different body style and headstock because I love the PC1 for playability and tone.
I like pointy "Ibanez" like horns - a little more exotic body style. Not to everyone's taste I know but I like it. 3/8" Maple Top with Mahogany body. Guitar weighs about the same or maybe a little lighter than my PC1. They could have given me a little more room between the neck and the lower horn because the radius for the cut out is skinnier than a normal soloist style body but I can get use to it. I figured they would know better than to make it so skinny. I asked for the larger horn on top like a regular guitar because I thought the normal Demon body looked upside down to me. So they gave me what they called a "Reverse Body." They must have just reversed the pattern. But they did not think to put a little more room between the neck and lower horn by doing this. I thought they would know better. Anyway, I can deal with it. It plays runs easier higher up on the neck than the PC1 but arpeggios at the 24th fret will take a little getting use to because of the space. So I learned how to brace my hand against the horn and I think it will be fine.
Also makes me wonder why there is such a large wood block in the body/neck connection of these bolt on designs. Maybe you get better tone transfer and better sustain with this more traditional approach rather than an all access neck such as with an Ibanez.
The features I added were scalloped frets 22 - 24 - which turned out to be a good move. Thanks to the Ibanez Jem I once owned I copied their idea on this.
Also there is no scarf joint in the neck - similar to the PC1. I thought that would be best for sustain. The neck is SPECTACULAR. Best feeling neck I have ever played. Seems a little slimmer than my PC1. If there is one feature I like most in any guitar it is the neck so I am happy. Seems easier to do legato than the PC1 also.
Added a coil splitter. SD Custom 5 in bridge and 59 in neck.
Everything with regards to paint and hardware, etc... is absolutely fantastic. I can't get the finish to look as good in the pictures as in person. This is a stunning guitar in person. I was floored.
Now my bitch - set up sucked. Strings were bottoming out. Neck is too straight. Pick ups way too low. Maybe the dealer is ultimately resoponsible for this but I can believe Jackson would let a guitar go out of the Custom Shop with such disregard. I am pissed about that.
Sound - I still have to wait to see if the truss rod is adjusted enough. But accoustically it sounds similar to the PC1. The notes seem to swell a little more when picked correctly. So extremely good tone even accoustically. You can hear the sustain - as good as the Warrior I have and maybe a little better.
I pluged it in and WOW! It KILLS! Thicker Maple Top perhaps is why - I don't know. I thought the Jem I had had good harmonics - harmonics just SCREAM off of this thing. It oozes tone and sustain. Very happy with the sound.
