Jackson has spectacular maple necks. I have found the Maple necks are very articulate and punchy. Just love their feel and sound.

No fret markers either! I like it!

Neck makes the guitar IMO, very nice. If someone here owned this one they never played it. It didn't take long to dirty this neck up!

Yeah I know. I have 2 with maple necks that I just love. I am still trying to figure out the best way to clean them without darkening the color of the wood.

            Re: Custom shop

I use a little oil and a soft toothbrush. Works pretty well. I just clean it everytime I change strings that way it never builds up to crazy amounts of gunk.

I have three single humbucker guitars now and I like neck pickups! I bought all three because of how they played so I sacrificed the neck pickup but I really don't miss it, plenty of players better than me get by without one!

What kind of oil are you using? - does it darken the fretboard?

                    Re: Custom shop

Lemon oil, it hasn't darkened noticably, although it does seem that the figure is more prominent then when I got it. Its a birdseye neck. So maybe its darkened somewhat. It hasn't been really noticable though. And you don't need to use hardly any oil at all. I just put a tiny bit on the toothbrush. It took me awhile to figure out what to use. At first I used a razorblade to scrape the junk off and that was a really bad idea. Not so much with the maple but the soft rosewood on my bc rich now has razor scratches on it. Not noticable unless you look really close. So then I just got some fretboard oil online. And I remember Sully saying in a post about using a toothbrush. So I combined the two. Its worked well so far.

nice guitars and from the angle of the pic i couldn't tell it was an input Jack on the ash guitar.

I figured that, there is already a 12 gauge Soloist somewhere on this board! I was told years ago not to use oil on a maple board so I don't. I clean the board so there is no gunk on it, its just greying up a bit, looks cool.

                          Re: Custom shop

Yes, natural oiled birdseye and flamed maple show better figuring after some dirt and grime have been absorbed into the wood, since the wood density varies, the amount of stuff absorbed varies, and shows off the figuring better...

Anyways, awesome guitar! I drool every time I see that one! Yeah, it's been around, from ebay to a few members here, it's one of the guitars I'm fond of. Glad it's your main player!
