Scooter--Is yours a vintage Soloist, or a Shannon? Wonder if some were Basswood, some poplar? That would explain why mine is heavier than my friend's.
Jackson should realize that most people want the classic non-recessed Floyd Soloists back! It's amazing how much more comfy the older style is to play! Neck angled back slightly is the key to comfort. The new Soloists don't have that, thanks to the recessed Floyd.
