They do totally different things. Firstly, the JE-1000 is a gain boost, and a hard to find one at that. The JE-1200 is a mid-sweep and fairly easy to find. I have played through both and can't say I recommend either. However, if you really wanted a gainboost, I'd go with an EMG PA-2 or an Afterburner (same circuit just on a push/pull) they sound better to me than the JE1000.

Exactly.
PA-2 has a lower noise floor, more transparent/less coloration, less battery consumption and smaller in size,

I was wondering what everyone's opinion is on which active electronics to use in a Jackon Soloist. Should I go 1000 or 1200?
Thanks, Dave

I´d use the 1200, but that´s becasue I like the Mid-boost in particular.... both will work fine, and the 1000 does have more flexibility as far as tonal shaping goes...
The EMG PA2 and Duncan Pickup boosters are a pure gain boost = more output, nothing else... I personally actually like the way the Jackson pres influence the tone, and it´s not as extreme IMO as some would want you to think...
I think he means fairly easy compared to the JE-1000.. they´re all far from an everyday item on eBay, but I´d say about 2/3-3/4 of the Jackson pres that do pop up are 1200s.... kind of logical considering that it´s the system that was also most often used on imports (model series, professionals...) I didn´t know the 1200 was designed as a whole system around the J-200 and J-50bc, kewl.... though I must say it works equally great (tonally) with the J-90BC or a Dimebucker

The JE-1200 was a system designed to work with the following:
3 SC's: (3) J-200 Single Coils (bi-level low impedence SC's)
OR
H/S/S: (2) J-200's and (1) Jackson humbucker (J-50, J-80, J-90, J-95 and all variations within)
OR
2 Hums: Any (2) Jackson humbuckers
OR
1 Hum: Any Jackson humbucker

AAAH, now that´s a bright light, I can see clearly now
But seriously, if and when they´re available again (I faintly remember you hinting on something a few months ago), I would recommend offering to use other aftermarket PUs as well as or in lieu of the Jackson PUs, some really complement the system well IMO (as well as there being quite a few Duncans that are really almost identical to some of the Jackson PUs, most notably the 50 and 90 series Hums..)
