• Should I put a zebra duncan in my KE-1?

I've seen that some of the marty friedman sigs had that, but I think it was just the transparent black models.

I have the solid black one, I kinda want to do it b/c it might look kinda nice.

at the same time I don't know if it will just look goofy

what do you guys say?

I'd say no. zebra on black always looked weird to me, unless it is a les paul.

Sure, why not? As long as it's something cool like a Custom and not a lame JB!

BEcause JBs are extremely trebelly. A guitar as cool as that needs some serious bawlz.

Go for it - it's not exactly an irreversable mod! Of course, you could photoshop a zebra on there to get an idea of how it will look before you buy a new pickup.....
Popular is not the same as good
Rare is not the same as valuable
Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get

Yeah, too much treble and high mids. I've always liked high mids, but the JB is ridiculous, and it's an overrated pup, IMO. That thing needs more bass and low mids.
Though, if it works for you, then get another JB.

Interesting, I never had a problem with the JB but maybe I might like something else more if I tried it.

My guitar before this had a dual EMG 81 set, that didn't bother me much either (except for trying to get cleans out of it lol)

what do you recommend?

perhaps an EMG 85?

what about a good passive pickup?

thanks!

Re: Should I put a zebra duncan in my KE-1?

I had the JB in my old Hamer Special FM (now owned by Travis) and I thought it sucked! The guitar was a mahogany body, mahogany set neck, flamed maple top... the JB was way too bright, IMO. I actually put a set of EMG chrome 25th anniversary 81s in it and it gave it some better low end, and the funny thing is I usually prefer the 85 over the 81 in the bridge, but it worked great in that guitar.
If going passive, I'd say try the DiMarzio Tone Zone. A Duncan Invader is nice, too, if you want even more gain. Those pups definitely have more low mids and bass and sound really beefy!

Ok since you're gonna be playing through a Dual Recto, I recommend either a TB-4 (trem spaced JB) or a EMG 85 for a nice thick sound cause the 81 sounds a little too harsh to my ears. But...a zebra pick up....not the best looking in my opinion.

how does the Tb-4 differ from the regular JB?

I think if I change it up I might change to the emg85

Wider pole piece spacing. Floyds have wider string spacing than normal bridges, so TB spaced pickups have wider pole spacing so that the poles line up under the strings.

An 85 would look nice on that kelly
EMG's look better than passive pickups in my opinion
As for sound, It's a personal preference
Personally, I like em' and I like passives too
An INVADER would be nice too, it has the "balls" you need
But no zebra! You'll ruin that evil look
