My SL2H isn't really that heavy. I think it's on the lighter side compared to some of my other guitars.

The lighter the wood, the warmer the tone should be. Denser wood = harsher and shriller tone (think maple).

Isn't mahogany warm, ...and heavy?

mahogany is not in general very heavy. Explorer or Flying V - are medium weight guitars. I guess people are used to beleive that mahogany is very heavy because of LesPauls, not understanding that they weigh much mostly because of the thick maple top.

That plus the sheer amount of material used. Those bodies are really thick too! Is the Charvel 750xl body as thick as a LP? They are pretty heavy as well.
