Eh, what are you on about, the cap is more substantial than you imply...IIRC it's 1/8"?

No it's not. The maple top on the production guitars is just a very thin veneer (Exception: PC-1, where it's actually 1/8"). On both of my Soloists it's approx. 1/32" or even less.

          I asked my crystal ball
No, I measured it! You can easily do it in a pickup cavity, with removed pickup.

I don't have it anymore....so it doesn't matter! Ha ha! So we'll go with Carbophos' theory...I do remember it was heavier than my DXMG...which makes sense, as that's a chunk of alder w/ no maple running through the body, just a maple bolt-on neck.

Mine were slighter larger than 1/32 inch thick in caping. Then the MAH I had had a top that was damn near 1/4 inch. It must have gotten the special treatment.

I would call such kind of top - that is too thick to be called a veneer but still pretty thin to be perceived as a "real" top - a ply referring to a plywood. If the specs were "Alder body with a maple ply cap" it would be less confusing.
                Because I don't say it
                Doesn't mean I ain't thinking it

Yes, and it's a bit of confusion. Because usually maple top is 1/8" to 3/4". And it affects the tone noticeably. While 1/32" is more of a finish option rather than tonal one.

BTW in comparison to my other Jacksons (KE2T, KV2, and RR LTD) My SL2H
feels very light....no scale to weigh it though I would have to guess 8lbs or under
