Mine is a mess until I use Naptha followed by Danish Oil. But the oil darkens the fretboard. So if anyone has a better method for cleaning these maple fingerboards do tell.
really, that is a good question....GEAR:

How do I keep the boards clean... I wash my hands before I play them and then I wipe them down before they go back in the case.
Then when I change strings, I clean them with a light lemon oil.
Nothing special really.
Since all but one of my guitars have maple boards, I got used to the routine.
A long time ago I looked at my Ibanez and saw the trashed board and realized I should take better care of them.-Rick

I think if you used some straight lemon oil or mineral oil, it would be more neutral in coloration. The danish oil is more of a petroleum product and dissolves and remixes anything left on the finger board. It removes some stuff, but I think it tints too much. Other than that, you could get a full scalloped fingerboard and it would be maintenance free.Tone is like Art: Your opinion is valid. Listen, learn, have fun, draw your own conclusions.
