  • Please help with any info on this unusual JJ1

Hi guys, I'm new here and love all of the info available here. I have recently purchased an unusual JJ1 and would like any input concerning it.

Here what I notice that makes it look unique to me:

    1. Obviously, the body. The guy I bought it from described it as a Birdseye Korina, but I've never even heard of Birdseye Korina. It does have some korina appearances but I think it may be Birdseye Maple. I've never seen anything quite like it in a guitar body.

    2. No "Made in USA" decal
    3. Black and White "Extortion" Logo
    4. One non logo'd Seymour Duncan at the bridge (Haven't pulled p'ups to check models yet)
    5. Serial Number -0267JJ- denotes Made in the USA - Ontario, CA 1996

I know this is a relative thing, but what would you say this guitar is worth? It truly is in excellent condition.

    Welcome, Rob.

1996 was the first year for the JJ1, and yes, they did come in Korina (in addition to mahogany).
    Bridge pickup is SH-4 (JB)
    Neck is SH-2 (Jazz)
    Bridge is Wilkinson GTB-100.

Check out the '96 catalog page:

I have no idea what it's worth, but you just bought it (how much? ) so enjoy that rare sig axe!

That is really nice looking, Rob. I have no idea of what it is worth though.

Yeah that is definitely Korina....I can't recall seeing bridseye Korina though, so that is something really cool. The JJ's don't seem to bring in much $$ unfortunately....putting a value on it is a little tough since it would be only based upon what I've seen others sell for....I can't seem to remember one selling for over $800-$900. The neck-thru's will command a little more $$ than the bolt-ons. It's a sweet axe though and I'm sure a killer player!

Thanks for the welcome and the input, guys. I've tried to find any info whatsoever on birdseye Korina but so far have found nothing. I never knew it existed until now. I assume this gorgeous wood wasn't put on a production guitar, which begs the question why isnt there even a Made in USA or Custom Shop decal?

Not only does it look good, but it SOUNDS phenomenal and is very heavy.

I got it for $450 if you can believe that...
