  • What is this soloist?

I've had it for a little while, but I know NOTHING about it. The Serial number is; J5764 which is a 1990 Custom according to Jacksons site. I bought it because I like maple fretboards and my wife's favorite color is orange so I knew I could get away with it...

It's got some nice flame on the fretboard.

all I know is that you barely beat me to it when it was ebay
How's it play? I'd love to have a maple board soloist at some point
If this is our perdition, will you walk with me?

It plays great. The neck is really nice. I don't really notice any difference between the maple and ebony though, it's got huge frets.

were maple necked Soloists semi common custom orders back then? I'd kinda like to know where this thing came from, or if it was part of a run of them, or what.

Maple boarded soloists were not ever a production option, so I'd say it would have been one of the following:

                      - An individual CS order (either store or customer)
                      - Part of a small run ordered together by a store though I've never seen another like this so that wouldn't seem likely
                      - A guitar built by the CS on a whim for whatever reason
Popular is not the same as good
Rare is not the same as valuable
Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get

Thanks guys. Without the original shipping documents, there's probably no way of ever knowing for sure?
